Really just a post to say that im taking my boy jumping today!
It will be his and mine first ever comp. hes 9 years old but really hadnt done any proper, constant work before he came to me so after 6 months of getting to know each other and working on what he can, its time to bite the bullet and jsut do it. Otherwise ill put it off for forever!
Hes a big rangy horse, loads of scope but has a tendancy to lean on my hands when a little bit unbalanced in canter, so my plan is too bring him back to trot around corners and get him nice and balanced before each fence.
Dont ccare about getting placed, just want nice clean rounds to start off with!

Better go dust off my show jacket and pray that my nice jodphurs still fit me ... :o

You obviously put the wrong smiley by your post - it shouldn't be :( but :D. We do this for fun, right? :D :D

You sound well planned and realistic - difficult as it is try and relax and breathe! Good luck, and I'll be expecting a competition report later ;) :p

Ooo Good Luck!

Know how it feels to have them lean on the hands / get longer & longer, my mares the same. I found come back to trot after the jump & picking up the canter again (especially when changing leads) helped keep her front end up & the canter more engaged.

Just keep calm & think of it as a training session & I'm sure you'll be fine :D

haha i genuinely did do that smily by mistake as much as i do feel like that right now lol.
yep... remembering to breathe is top of my list i do tend to forget!

Thats your first error but will let you off as its your first time.
Priority should always be given to keeping horse between you and the ground. If you still have time to breath as well then thats a bonus.

Have fun :D

Awww bless ya..know exactly how you feel, you will love it, I read somewhere , I think on here that jumping sorts everything out, bet that's true for you...you go girl!!
Would love to hear how you get on, this will be me in a few months too.x

Love this - a real pearl of wisdom!

My instructor gets me to count strides all the way round. When training she makes me shout them (I have a tendency to forget to breathe haha). One day I got to 147 - once she'd stopped laughing, she informed me I could just go to 10 then repeat. Every time I jump I think of this, laugh, relax then head into the ring and count to ten (many times). It works brilliantly :)

Remember we do it for fun! Enjoy xx
