I am very excited as I have just signed up for my first sponsored ride! It says there are prizes for best turned out, furthest travelled and a few more.

What do you actually wear?? And my horse? Do you plait the main? Do you need a body protector? I might only be doing the non jump option because I am a wimp :D We have just started jumping over poles...

Thanks

I haven't done one for years but used to do the one in Windsor Great Park. As I remember most were in x-country wear as hundreds there so very few actually went for the best turned out prize. Be prepared for your horsey to get very excited but mostly have fun!

Hi I have done quite a few of these and Ive never seen anyone plait up before - they're normally just pleasure rides. The only kit that is mandatory is usually high vis. Everything else is standard - just comfy riding gear esp as they are usually 10 to 20 miles long.
If I were you and its your first one a body protector is a good idea because the horses generally do get quite fired up.
I have a little pack that clips to my saddle for essentials while on the ride aswell.
Have fun!!!

Take a drink with you if you can - a screw top bottle or drinks container with one of those thingies you pull up - no idea what they are called, but like most sports bottles have. If you get dehydrated you will get tired and a tired rider is an unbalanced rider! There maybe refreshments but alcohol (at some hunt rides!) is a bad idea just dehydrates you further. A snack you can eat with one hand also - like an energy bar or something - is a good idea.

The advice about a body protector is wise - horses can get excited!

Most important of all - have fun!!!

Just check the ride info as some do restrict the length of the whip you can carry. Other than that, wear your most comfortable riding stuff and have a drink with you. I take a big bottle of water so i can pour some on my horses withers if he gets hot - best to practice that out hacking at home first as some object but it does cool them down!
