Those of you who do not know, me and my horse have had a tuff time, i had a double transplant and then riding acident and lost leg above the knee, Ebony fractured her leg two days before i lost my leg. Since then struggled on own to ride again and look after her on my own, long story short has been very hard and many times wanted to give up and I mean give up but she kept me going, gave me a reason to learn to walk again and to start to ride again, have asked in the past if any of you know another above the knee rider and to date the answer always comes back no. We have had no help from RDA really have been no help so my friends and I just tried to get on with it not knowing if we are doing it right, had a nasty fall last month when Ebony spoked spun up a bank fell over scrambled up spun again and then I fell off on the road, all the feeling of being a C```P rider came flooding back but today I had a lesson, and for the first time I feel GREAT about what I have done. We did not do that much but some trotting loads of transactions and even trotted a 20 metre circle !! After what I used to do never thought would be so made up about doing that . I always put myself down saying I am not good enough, but today I really did feel ~GOOD and want to to shout about it sorry to go on, my friend took a video of us and we do not look to bad for a couple of old crocks lol just wanted to share bit of good news with you for a change sorry so long.

Again if anyone knows of an above the knee amputee would love to talk to someone else for any form of help they could give me thanks

Brilliant! Well done both of you! :D

An old friend of mine lost his leg below the knee, but he's not a rider and above the knee is a whole other kettle of fish (so to speak), so I'm not sure he'd be much help.

Good grief, I take my hat off to you!
What a super star you are. Was it due to the riding accident that you lost your leg? Sorry, I don't know the story. Well done for all that you have achieved - and all that you are still yet to achieve in the future!

Wow, quite a story...you make me feel ashamed for grumbling about my current situation, I and my knee badly broken, and am facing surgery...but not losing a leg!

Echo above, hats off to you!

Great to hear someone being so positive and embracing life. Guess it makes you appreciate the little things even more. Just goes to show if you're determind you can achieve anything.

I don't know anyone who has lost a limb but I do have a friend who cannot walk unaided now due to a brain tumour she had a few years ago. I think she could do with using some of your positive thinking as sadly she is struggling to cope as she was such an active person and spent a lot of time with her horses before. I generally think where theres a will there's a way!

Here's to you continuing to go from strength to strength

How wonderful! I'm so pleased for you and you'll just go from strength to strength now! :D

My friend had a dreadful accident last September and destroyed her leg - it hasn't resulted in amputation - yet. They are still waiting to see how it heals, but I think (hope) she's on the mend. She is just now saying that she may ride again - she loves my Hugo and I am hopeful that she will be able to have a little go on him soon (she's his 'auntie' lol!)

I will tell her of your story to give her hope and encouragement, if I may? xx

Nothing much I can add, but WOW, I admire you and so well done for getting going again, so many people would have given up months ago.
I am disapointed to hear the RDA have not helped, can you contact any of the para olympians? Just an idea, Some how there must be a way, and I am sure they can offer support and advice.
Again, all the very best for your future riding, but whatever happens, chin up, you are already great!
xx

Very well done to you. Glad you are feeling good! Are there any photos or bits of vid that we can see? Or even just a piccy of your lovely horse? I've been away for a bit so don't think I've seen her. She sounds super though and I'd love to see her pretty face :D

I rarely read posts all the way through (lazy, short attention span!) but that is incredible! I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it has been, but massive respect for not giving up!!!

Yes it was broke my leg badly and wore a cage for four years then infection got in and it was take the leg off or I was not going to make it so no choice really.

Well done for embracing life. :D
You are so strong to continue and I hope you find someone in a similar situation so you can share stories.

Echo what someone else has said about para olympians. Whenever I go to Hartbury there is the most amazing picture hung up on the entrance to the grand stands of a para olympian doing dressage with no arms. Its such an inspirational picture.

Of course you may and if she ever needs to talk then please feel free to contact me anything I can do to help x

Fantastic, fair play to you. Gives eejits like myself a well deserved kick up the arse. :)

Very inspirational and I hope you find someone to help you out. Would it be worth contacting BD and seeing if they can put you in touch with anyone via the para-equestrian team?
