First time since i lost my leg i feel good

You have my heartfelt admiration - I'm sure you have had dark days, but your positive attitude is quite humbling; especially for someone as lazy-arsed as me!

I watched a news item recently where there was a slot about the horseguards using riding to rehabilitate injured soldiers, not all of whom had been riders previously. One of the chaps on there had been a lifeguard before and he had had his leg amputated above the knee. He talked at some length about the problems he had overcome to grip with his seat properly whilst controlling his prosthetic leg.

I'm sure if you gave the army a ring they would be only too happy to share experiences with you.

Good Luck hon :)

Thank you, your the second person to say contact the arm, which I must say I never gave it a thought so this will be on my next hit list, many thanks

Fantastic .you sound an amazing combination ,,,pictures please.

without repeating everyone else ,i know a paralympic rider who does fantastically well, with your positive attitude you will do well in what ever you choose.

Wow. What a total inspiration you are. I'm so glad you are feeling good about yourself and your lesson. It sounds like it would have been very easy to give up at various points, but you have kept on going against everything. Bloody well done!!!!! xxxx

What a lovely inspirational post. I managed to look through your pictures and see the great ones of you back on board! Your horse is stunning too.

I am sure you will go on to be sucessful in whatever you choose to do with your horse. x

Your post made me cry! You're so brave - well done. I really hope that some of the recommendations on this thread can help you and your amazing horse.

I dont know anyone who can help directly, but although not a rider a good friend's younger brother had a rugby accident which went the same way as you - cage, infection, amputation. He is a below knee amputee but has got on with life - he runs, does lots of sport and if you didnt know he was an amputee you would never notice. He got to be one of the people who ran with the olympic flame through london too.

You're really inspirational. I've broke my back and the thought of getting back in the saddle is starting to unnerve me so I have full respect to you for doing so.

My goodness you saying that has now brought a tear to my eye, but must say quite a few things that people have said also have done the same to me when I put this in on Thursday I never for one moment expected the responce that I have had to it, as said before ~We really are just a very ordinary pair getting on with things and everyone on here are very kind to say what they have said about us, if anything it has made me think what i have done and not what I can not do, thank you x

Those of you who do not know, me and my horse have had a tuff time, i had a double transplant and then riding acident and lost leg above the knee, Ebony fractured her leg two days before i lost my leg. Since then struggled on own to ride again and look after her on my own, long story short has been very hard and many times wanted to give up and I mean give up but she kept me going, gave me a reason to learn to walk again and to start to ride again, have asked in the past if any of you know another above the knee rider and to date the answer always comes back no. We have had no help from RDA really have been no help so my friends and I just tried to get on with it not knowing if we are doing it right, had a nasty fall last month when Ebony spoked spun up a bank fell over scrambled up spun again and then I fell off on the road, all the feeling of being a C```P rider came flooding back but today I had a lesson, and for the first time I feel GREAT about what I have done. We did not do that much but some trotting loads of transactions and even trotted a 20 metre circle !! After what I used to do never thought would be so made up about doing that . I always put myself down saying I am not good enough, but today I really did feel ~GOOD and want to to shout about it sorry to go on, my friend took a video of us and we do not look to bad for a couple of old crocks lol just wanted to share bit of good news with you for a change sorry so long.

Again if anyone knows of an above the knee amputee would love to talk to someone else for any form of help they could give me thanks

What an amazing lady you are. Well done for persevering and reaching a fabulous goal. Please don't ever put yourself down what you have done is out of this world. Well done and I hope you manage to finally get the support you need. xxx

You are an inspiration!

I'm sorry I don't know any amputees - are there any support groups out there that could give you a steer in the right direction?

Have only just seen this, but you put my problems into perspective, for sure. If I knew how to put a large 'round of applause' smiley on here, I'd put ten of them, just for you. You're amazing.

Do please consider putting a post about your situation in the British Dressage forum. You need to register, but it's free to do. A lot of Para riders post on the forum and I do think it would be a great place to get advice and "meet" individuals in similar situations.

Very best of luck for the future!

Next time I'm complaining about something or nothing and can't be bothered to ride I'll remember you and your beautiful horse. What an story and I do hope you find someone who will help you.

Can I do this if I know nothing about Dressage, before all my problems started always did jumping and know nothing about this aspect of riding, do you think that would matter ? as I do not want to look stupid

OP, where are you based?

I know a classical dressage trainer/ex Olympic rider who specialises in para- riders. She's trained several for the Olympic para-team but also just works with para riders on their horses. She holds clinics, lessons etc. She's a lovely woman. I was going to join her mini marvels team last year, but couldn't afford transport to her (she is about 40 minutes from me), I was gutted.

Her name is Tanya Larrigan, I can drop her a text or you can give her a buzz on her website/Facebook.

We're based in Kent, but stretches to Surrey/Sussex

Please dont be put off by the fact that it is the British Dressage site - there are loads of lovely helpfull people on there chatting about all sorts of things not just dressage. Even if you do not intend to do dressage there are definately some people who will be able to help / advise you (para riders and trainers) who may be able to suggest easier ways for you to ride and I am sure that even if you dont want to pursue dressage they will still gladly share their knowledge with you in order to help you progress with your riding.

I will be looking out for your post! x x :D
(Or if you would like me to post something for you then I will gladly do that for you!)

Just wanna say your post was really inspirational and it's so nice to read about someone having a good day. Long may it continue!

Keep us updated with your progress please! :)

I couldnt read this post and not reply. What an inspirational story, you and Ebony are obviously a real team and have a fantastic bond, I love your pictures. Congratulations to you both for overcoming everything life has thrown at you. Please keep us updated on your progress, there have been some wonderful suggestions from this post, I hope they are of some help (the para dressage trainer that appears to be very near to you is particularly exciting! :D) Thanks for sharing with us, I think it brings the everyday total nonsense and grumbling/'ranting' over nothing on here into perspective. Best of luck to you and Ebony. :)
