First time since i lost my leg i feel good

What an incredible lady you are, and your Ebony of course. You are a total inspiration and I hope it puts things into perspective for a lot of people, it certainly has for me. XX

wow what a wonderful feeling that must have been. I actually finish a physiotherapy placement this week where i have been working with amputees, i have not met any horse riders, but from speaking to doctors most people can get back to a normal life obviously everyhting is much more tiring.
As for finding any AK amputees, i would encourage you to get in contact with BD and see if they can give you any contact details for paralympic riders with amputations.ouch yourself. I am sure there must be some. Or even just search for them online and get intouch.
I hope you have success in your future riding and congratulations to both of you. V inspirational!

Well done you :D

I know a lady who has an artificial leg, I am not sure if hers is amputated above the knee for sure but I am almost certain it is. She rides and you would never know she has any problems at all, she hunts and also does (I think) some bits for the paralympic team. Would you like me to pm you her name? she is on facebook and I am sure would be more than happy to chat to you :D

Oh yes please I know can not be the only one it just feels like it, just want to go on and do so much more than what we are doing, everything we have done so far is just guess work and really do not know what we are doing lol Thanks x

What an achievement, incredibly well done. Congratulations to you both.

Years ago there was a PC instructor who lost her leg to cancer, but I don't know if it was above or below the knee. I know she had a leather lower leg. She used to hunt a very nice cob.

I can also remember seeing pictures of soldiers from the First World War who lost limbs, yet carried on riding/hunting. One rode side-saddle I seem to recall.

Good idea to contact the Paralympic team/trainers, etc.

Very best of luck to you both.

What you have done is amazing and your horse is just beautiful. Seeing that picture of you back on her made me feel quite emotional as to what a fantastic feeling that must of been.

Well done and give her a big cuddle from all her forum admirers :)

Your story is an inspiration.
There was an article in H&H a few months back about soldiers who had lost limbs who were taught to ride as part of a rehab programme. I will see if I can dig it out as it may be worth contacting the centre for advice, no harm in asking!

sweetheart feel so so proud what you have achieved and lol bit kick up arse to me losing confdence over back injury - but seriously you my little lady hold that head up and say "HEY LOOK AT ME" fantastic achievement get in there and hey what you going for next because i think the world is your oyster xxxxx

I saw a lady dressaging a few years ago who had lost her right leg (just below the hip).
She rode side saddle and competed at medium level BE against able bodied riders. She also handled her gorgeous grey Spanish horse herself etc. She was inspirational to watch.
Sorry I can't remember her name, to be of any use at all.

Your post is very inspiring, and makes me appreciate how lucky I am. Good luck with the rest of your journey :)

My goodnes a BIG thank you to you all I never really thought that we were that special, and you comments have really made my day even better, I just love my horse and was not going to let a thing like a loss of a leg stop me from being with her she really is the special one here for putting up with me and all my failings she seems to know that some thing is not right with me and looks after me

Echo everyone elses comments, well done, what perseverence and determination you have. I am in awe.
And was going to ask if side-saddle was an option? I had a side-saddle lesson years ago, and recall being told that it was actually more secure than a regular saddle, lots of ladies still hunt side-saddle, (apparently!) so if you need an extra bit of security for hacking it might be worth considering??

Amazing what you have achieved, wow. Easton college in norwich have an involvement with Paralympic show jumpers and drivers - incredibly inspirational for everyone and may be worth your while contacting(pm for details). Also. I know that Becky chapman at ashen equestrian centre has helped people find effective ways of riding after accidents and again would be worth a chat (google and email). But I feel you must have real guts and passion to have persevered so stick with it!!

You have every right to be pleased and proud of what you've acheived after your accident. You are one gutsy lady.

Sorry to hear RDA couldn't help or point you in right direction.
I wonder if someone like Lee Pearson or one of his team mates could help?
Might be worth trying to contact him.

I look forward to an update on your progress.

Go girl !

So sorry to hear that RDA have veen unable to help you, as an ex RDA Group instructor in your area I fully understand, Please PM me your details as I may be able to give you some contacts.

Wow – well done you!

With regards to finding other amputee riders have you thought of putting a thread on the British Dressage forum (you have to become a member but its free to join on line just as an associate member which gives you access to the members forum), There are definitely Para riders on there so well worth posting a thread.

Good luck with your future riding!!:)

Thank you the trouble is money or the lack of it, not able to do the job I had so funds are limited and any spare money always goes on her keep, but it is an option perhaps one day we might be able to give it a go thanks x
