I posted a while ago for opinions about Fleck dressage whips and duly bought one (the carbon sports balance one with the rubber balance knobble things). It was really light and well balanced but didn't have quite the swish / flexibility I'd hoped.

Anyway, horse has since stood on said whip and snapped it :( so I'm in the market for another one but can't decide which one to go for. I have little hands so like a thin handle and would like something light, well balanced and swishy so I can use it with just a small wrist movement. Any ideas, experiences or recommendations would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm very fussy about whips, they have to be balanced and swishy enough but not too swishy. I spend ages choosing a new whip in the shops, standing swishing and flicking them to find the perfect one, comparing them and whittling the selection down until I have my favourite and getting some funny looks in the process! In the past I've tended to find that I've ended up with a cheaper one. Was gutted that the last time that I ended up with an expensive Fleck one as I hadn't looked at the prices while I was trying them. I have the one with the shaped handle which sits nicely in the hand. I'm very pleased with it and am trying to be be super careful not to lose or break it.

edited to add that the one I have is called the Delta Pro, thanks Google. The handle is kind of a rounded triangle in profile, the narrower pointy bit sits in the crook of your thumb and it is very easy to hold and use.

I recommend the Fleck Carbon Composite. It's light, well balanced and the quicker one flicks their wrist the more it flexes.

The circumference of the handle is 4.5cm and at circa £30 excellent value for money.

Love fleck whips - I bought a couple of non fleck whips at Olympia and I never use them... I buy the 'cheap' rubber handled ones at 130cm they come in at about £22 and they are super light and flicky but whips are v personal aren't they so go and have a look in person .

I have a delta pro & saw a Fleck Carbon Composite at a ride with your mind demo. Out the two I think the 2nd is better

Thanks for the replies.

The one I had was a carbon composite balance one and I think it wa just a little too rigid for my liking. I've had a look online at the Delta pro ones and think they look nice. My only concern is that the handle looks quite wide for my little hands!

I liked the look of the Impuls flex one and the Triple flex which it says is supposed to be an amalgamation of the Delta Pro and the Impuls. Decisions, decisions!

I too am very fussy about whips and have quite a collection for all circumstances and requirements. I like Flecks, but have to have them a little stiffer than the norm, a tad longer, and always cut off the lash - I don't like to tickle or sting horses; whips are for tapping and I don't like the follow through of a soft, swishy spine. I usually give myself a good belt with any whip I'm looking at in a shop just to be sure of what the horse is going to feel (I get some funny looks....).
