Every year my mare gets eaten alive by flies on her undercarriage. A normal fly rug would not help this as the area would still be exposed. I use PowerPhazer gel which works to an extent but still not fully. The flies bites and draw blood. They tend to be small black ones that attach on there. I can't stable her as she lives out.

Any advice on anything that works? Thanks in advance

My livery suffers
She has sweet itch and regularly humps the ground using her fetlock to rub the under carriage dispite all known brands and homeopathic ones and BOETT BLANKET.

I used radiol Fly creme and that really helped

I use nettex itch stop salve on my gelding's sheath and stomach, seems to stop the nasty little black flies!

Another vote for Nettex Itch stop save, it also soothes and helps heal the bites

yep same here, or NAF D-Itch ointment if it's easier to get hold of, has a similar effect.

As it's vaseline based, it doesn't feel cold so they don't tend to mind it being slapped on, I rub a little in the tops of their ears too.

Thanks for everyone's great advice I ended up slapping a load of cheap Vaseline on (£1 a tub from the cheap shop) and that seems to be working great as flies can't get at her skin. Will definitely check out some of the other suggestions too. Thank you!

My old mare used to suffer with this until I discovered yellow summer fly cream. But wear rubber gloves to apply you'll end up look I g like your hands are nicotine stained.

Radiol fly cream keeps black flies etc away for 24 hrs and I swear by it.

I asked pretty much same question on here once with no joy. Her bites were really crusty and nasty all over the teat bits or whatever they are called. I never found a good repellent/ easy to apply to that area, but it did clear it up amazingly with human insect bite cream from tesco. I was impressed!
