One of mine is driven mad by midges and flys. I worry about leaving fly masks on over night. Which masks have best vision for wearing at night?

Mine keep fly masks on all night in summer. They just wear which ever they have at the time, I've not really given much thought to which had best vision. I think as long as they are well fitting and have good eye clearance they are probably much the same.

I tend to go for ones that have a high UV resistance level to them - but that is because I have Appaloosas and they can be prone to eye issues, so I take a more proactive approach.

My boys have their fly masks on all night in summer and come in during the day for some rest and their fly masks to come off.

I use Equilibrium fly masks and the Woof Wear fly masks as those are the ones I'm most familiar with and like using - the Equilibrium fly masks are really adjustable and have fab eye clearance, whereas the Woof Wear ones have slightly higher UV protection I believe :)

Ditto this, mine have never seemed to have problems with them on over night.

my sweet itch mare is already wearing hers 24/7 (she comes in for a few hours most days to have it off for a bit) I really like the Harrison Howard ones and also the le mieux ones. I’ve never had any problems with them being able to see. It the reason I refuse to use the lycra ones though as i don’t believe they are safe if they slip as they could cause the horse to panic as they really wouldn’t be able to see in one of those!

The Cashel Crusader is the only one I have found which doesn't rub at all. Esecially during coat change season, the other brands I have used leave a mark across the nose.

That’s interesting, I have one that gets marks, only hair rubs but I’ve not tried Cashel.

I actually look through them myself to see how dark they are! Some are really dark! Personally I don't like leaving them on overnight for that reason unless the flies are really bad so it's the lesser if 2 evils.

This is what I do. I've found that fine black mesh have much better visibility. The thicker mesh white/grey/beige ones are much more limited in vision. I have been using the Shires masks successfully overnight, but they do fade eventually, so may treat her to a new one this year.

I use Shires because they're the only ones with big enough ears. I haven't had any issues with overnight visibility, both with fieldsafe (thick mesh) and the thinner mesh. I have a really ugly Shires one that has a mesh strip across the eye area and the rest is solid material that could cause issues if it didn't fit well, but I've not had any slippage. Mine wear them 24/7 for sun protection of their delicate pink muzzles.
