) but the flies are inevitabley bothering him, but I don't really want to be sending him out into County Show rings with bleached areas from fly spray. It wasn't an issue last year, as it rained through May and most of June... Suggestions please - Many thanks

I don't understand the OP sorry - do you want recommendations of non-bleaching fly sprays?

If he is still having a feed, I would feed him Brewers Yeast... I don't bother with fly spray anymore, just chuck this in a token handfull of chaff and it works more effectively than any spray I've used

The NAF stuff if the pink bottle is quite gentle - what colour is the horse?

Isn't there something about the NAF fly spray and horses reacting? Or is that the other colour - black is it?

He's bright bay - crap pic, sorry

Hmm I've read that back and I understand it, maybe that's only because I wrote it...

All of mine are on BY, have been for a while now, so that it had time to build up in their systems.

He's pretty - it's the black stuff you're thinking of. I use the pink stuff on my warmblood youngster who shows at county level and also our WH pony who is the same colour as your boy. We've never had any problems (just test a patch first!).

Some people have had problems with the black spray as it contains DEET, but it is not quite the work of satan that some people make it out to be - thousands of horses do not react to it, but as with everything, some horses unfortunately will (esp. if you don't read the instructions which say to shake the bottle before use)

I found that the black NAF spray did bleach the coat a little though.
