I need to get one for riding my cob, little blighters in her ears, horrible things make her shake her head when she hasn't got her field mask on.

Just musing to see what everyone has got!! she's got standard black ears anyway and people often think she has a fly veil on already :D:D:D

I quite like the subtle purple and gold ones like this:

Or number 6972 nay blue

PS am still on maternity leave and at home today, hence all the posts :D:D:D

I use fly veils all year round - for fly protection in summer and to help muffle noise the rest of the time for my spooky girl :) I have a selection of colours.... I like to coordinate with my saddle cloth - it's my version of matchy matchy cos I can't be bothered with bandages :D my current favourite is a caramel eskadron one - very posh dahhling!!!

I have one for my mare but I'm a bit worried its a tad tight (despite being a full) can anyone explain how tightly they are supposed to fit?

I bought a couple recently for my usually sharp gelding who has become much worse since the flies came out and it has made such a difference! I was concerned about looking pretentious at first but he is definitely wearing it for a reason, for the same reasons as wiglet I think he'll be wearing one all year round now. And it seems to suit him :)

I have the same as number 6972 (although didn't buy on ebay) in navy blue and burgundy, can see my collection expanding as well, and I already had a matching saddlecloth for the navy one.

I sometimes put one on my boy if the flies are bad as for some reason he really attracts the flies out hacking didn't put it on today & I was even having to keep my head down they were horrendous :(

Here is a pic of him wearing it. His is a John Whittaker one

I'll admit mine have them for prettiness...

But I will actually use them for their purpose now which is to keep the little midgies out their ears when I'm off hacking as they do help in that respect. I am also wonder if they will help my 14.3 as she is a very spooky mare but don't know if muffling her hearing would actually make her worse or not.

Picture of spooky in hers (she looks chuffed doesn't she?!?!) :D:D

I've always wanted a fly veil just because they look so smart! But know people would make bitchy comments if I turned up at the local show in one!

My connie lives in a fly veil as he has poorly ears which need protecting all the time. Unfortunately the only ones that stay on are the velcro masks rather than the lovely smart bonnets :(

I like them really roomy so she can swivel her ears around in all directions without it pulling at all :)
I've got a boring brown one for competing (matches her ears, black looked silly) and a mesh riding mask for home. Very dull ;)

I use one as much as it pains me as im a bit of an 'all the gear no idea' anyway but it does help when the flies are about. He isnt that bad just gets a bit twitchy.
This means im slowly building up a nice collection :D The best one i have is a plain black one with stretchy ears but i've just got a lovely navy and sliver, got a few more and always on the look out for more.Like the more plain colours thou.
I just to use one on my old mare purely because i looked good on her, she had a bit of a big cow forehead and it just worked for her.
Current boy

Old girl

The daughter bought Lily one, partly to help with noise & flies (which she hates) & then just because she's a teenager & she likes the matchy look  this is a Schockemohle which she bought because it matches the saddle cloth she had already bought her. ( can you tell she's a showjumper lol?!)

I am very tempted to get one for my lad, he was waggling his head about today at the flies. Do people find they make a big difference? Do they increase the sweat behind the ears? Thanks :D

I don't find my boy sweats anymore around the ears with it on. I wouldn't say it makes a big difference, but does help :)

Ha the daughter had money burning a hole in her pocket from working at Bramham so as soon as she saw these ears she just 'had' to have them! I've got to say its made her see that she can buy what she wants if she works for it because I certainly wasn't gunna buy them for her ;)

I have a brown one with gold piping (its actually the second eBay link on the OP) I love the look of it and it really suits her as well as helping with the flies! Now just to find one in the same colour with stretchy ears :)

Sorry for the thread hi-jack but I really want one! How are they supposed to fit? Any ideas on size? Horse takes a cob bridle and everything in that area, but some cob comes up huge some perfect! Any suggestions? Are the ears supposed to be big etc? Thankyou :D

Not noticed any problems with sweating... Did notice that using fly veils when hacking and smothering inside of ears with sudo-crem when turning out completely removed LG's head tossing/scratching almost instantly when previously he'd been going crackers, so use them now over summer to prevent his ears being bitten.

And yes, I like the matchy look. Even though I am far from a super competition rider... True 'all the gear no idea'. :o

I've just bought one for my boys as they are both twitchy about flies/midges in their ears at the moment. Not sure if this is because the yard we are at now is low down in a valley where previously we were up high, but not been a problem before. They are all doing it - but I've found the veil does help - and I can spray repellant all over it too.
