i personally like to put a foal slip on, on day on i have got 2 on a cob foal and a full size full as not sure what size foals head will be. i also like them to be leather as the y break much easier but it is what i like to do and diffrent people like to do different things.

I ordered a small and a medium to start with.

The foals grow so quickly and I managed to get them for £5 each, which for leather ones is brilliant.

Ive never found a foal slip small enough (and ive bred horses aiming to come out at 16h)! So i have used headcollars and they have been fab - ive not needed to add a piece of string under the chin personally but you can quite easily do that if required

They come in all sizes but not all tack shops stock all the sizes. I have managed to get some very small ones here and there 2nd hand, I think shires do a range of leather foal slips and headcollars, but again getting them ordered might take a while.

Here you go, when you want things foal go to newmarket, very reasonable price for slips and H/C !!!

Please don't be tempted to use nylon ones unattended as they have a huge breaking strain and if something happens you could find at best that you have a very badly injured foal!

My foal slip I had bought for me which was a one size fits all!!! Was too big (and it looks like my boy will be over 16HH!)so I got a baby 0 size leather headcollar from the saddlery for £9 (not expensive leather but won't fit foal long enough to wear out!!) which fit him perfectly. I haven't needed to add any twine to it either for catching etc.

Just a word of warning do not get a nylon one (headcollar or slip) as they do not break, always use leather or a specifically designed breakaway one.

thanks guy cleared a few things up inside my hollow mind....leather all the way but I do prefer that on all of mine for the same reasons you have stated will have to go buy a lil one for foalie (you never know it might fit the sect a afterwards

Mine were so tiny that I got them from Libbys tack - they were nylon but she wasn't turned out in them unless she was being watched.

The noseband on mine didn't go around my wrist but fitted foalies nose!!!!
