The grit and salt did infact start to work last night, Its starting to snap crackle and pop, Was able to clear a walk way to the field and down into the arena, Field isn't just yet safe, but YO used the grit to her advantage this morning and put her horse out into the other field which I didn't see this morning (yard is on a hill) Her horse is down near the house, The actual yard is at the top of the lane, Anyhoos lane still wasn't clear enough to put horse out into said field , so put her down into arena and the inevitable happened, She seen yo's horse or yo's horse seen madam and the two of them nickered at each other whilst madam went around arena 100 mph snorting, next of all out she pops into bad field breaking the top railing

....Eventually catch her and bring her back in .

Moral of the story is ....GRIT YOUR BLOODY YARD AND GET HORSES OUT IF POSSIBLE before they go bloody nuts and do something stupid

Darn horse I think is ok, although will not know until later if she has hurt herself ie swelling etc, no gashes that I could see , so fingers crossed eh?

*disclaimer .... This is not a debate nor is it getting at anyone who can't get their yard cleared up for one genuine reason or another, Im having a sh1tty day and its not getting any better *

agreed, i know a lot of people are at the mercy of their yard owners in this respect but i would do ANYTHING in my power to get them out including:

*beg, borrow or stealing grit and salt.
*clearing the yard of ice with a shovel, no matter how back breaking.
*mucking out on to the yard to make a path

good job mine are home as i would no doubt be branded the livery from hell!!!!

hope your girl is ok and not sore xxx

the other problem is the stupid way that if you grit and something hurts itself you are reponsible , do nothing and people take it on them selves to walkm on it and then cant claim whether it is a petrol forecourt or yard.

Totally agree! hope ponio is ok...

Another moral of the story... Fresh snow is a hell of a lot easier to clear than compacted snow / sheet ice... maybe any of us that have had this problem should get our shovels out earlier and clear pathways to fields etc before it becomes a problem...

** disclaimer - this comment is not aimed at anyone in particular, it's just a general observation I've made over recent weeks!'

Spot on! When it is fresh you can sweep it away easy peasy. You normally sweep yards to keep them clean and tidy, so keep doing it when the snow comes in!!!
