Following on from popularbreeds, what unusual breeds do you see in your area?

Wannabes:D.........I met a Eurasier on Friday. No, never heard of one either!:D Made out I did though - kidding;) Lovely boy, very Spitz like & apparantly a German breed. I told the owner I've given up on guessing breeds now, too many new pups on the block!

I don't know where to start googling so I'm asking you lot as you know lots!

At the marvellous Pets at Home today, boys and me having a lovely time socialising until we came across 3 matching grey huge dogs that looked like greyhounds but were mahoooosive! They might have been greyhounds but I didn't know they came that big! They were easily as tall as a wolfhound. What were they?

Sadly, they went a bit hysterical at the boys who tried to run away and the poor owner had a bad time holding them. I did kind of think don't take your dogs here if they're not happy with other dogs as it's a right mothers' meeting with all the dogs in there!

Ooh, also came across a Japanese Spitz and a cocker poo  that was bigger than Brig! I jokingly said to the owner, which was the poodle, the sire or the dam and he didn't know! I was on the floor! All he knew was that one parent is a standard poodle. Bless, I didn't want to lecture him and who knows, I might have been assuming wrongly!

I see a few less popular breeds near where I live: A family of Bassett Hounds (don't know if the owner breeds them), Chow Chow, Italian Spinone, Shar Pei, Keeshond (barks like crazy when you go past), Bedlington Terriers, Irish Setters, Great Danes, I'm sure there are lots of others I don't recognise.

When I was little, the village I lived in everyone who had a dog had a pedigree. Among our neighbours they had an Afghan Hound, Rough Collies, Doberman, Deerhound, Old English Sheepdog, Boxer, Bedlington Terrier, Greyhound, Whippet and Border Terrier. There were no Heinz 57's!

...
My brothers puppy, Bella. No there aren't many bred in the UK. My brother waited 8 months for this one. The breeder gets bitches over from abroad. All 3 came into season at the same time. 1 lost them, 1 only had 2 pups, the other 3.

Oooh is she coming training I have a real soft spot for smoothies I had a lovely crossbred rough collie x scruffy mutt rescue years ago, she was lovely and looked just like a smoothy. Before I got the Auzzie blokes I was going to have a stud fee puppy from a friend's Merle smooth collie dog but he refused point blank to breed

Sadly not Karyn! They live the other side of Brighton... You'll have to put up with Harley!

OMG, today I met a Saarloos Wolfhond in my feed merchants. What a stunning beastie and the most gorgeous nature. I wanted to steal him!

A man in my town has 5 Leonburgers - they make such an impressive site, sitting outside a local cafe with him on a Saturday morning!

I met a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever the other day - very pretty, sweet dog.

I honestly think I've seen every single breed, and possible mix, in existence. Today I saw my third Thai Ridgeback, and met my second Polish Lowland Sheepdog at the weekend. Breeds that are rare elsewhere--Frenchies, Chinese Cresteds, Bichon Bolognese, Bostons, Lowchens--we encounter almost every day at the dog park.

The breeds popular in the English countryside--Salukis, English Cocker Spaniels, and Lurchers--I probably only encounter once a year. Believe it or not, I do see Wolfhounds, Mastiffs, Great Danes (particularly the harlequins) etc. fairly regularly, and have no idea where people house such dogs.

We have a Standard Poodle who is probably one of the most unusual we see out, we now see sooo many Poodle crosses though and we contstantly get and overhear 'That's a Labradoodle!!' my hubby is going to strangle someone one day I think. I met my first English Pointer the other day, I was very sad and rushed out to meet them as I had spotted him driving past and had to say hello.

We have a Bracco Italiano in our training class. Or it may be a Spinone:o I can't remember! It's one or the other though:p

Ahh the Leonbergers are from Chelmsford arent they? Cant be too many people with 5 of them! My boyfriend lives in Chelmsford and whenever im visiting and wander into to town for a coffee i see them. Such well behaved dogs!

We've got a German Longhaired Pointer (or Deutsch Langhaar). She's just fab. She is nanny to my 3 kids who are all under 6 years old and also works to the gun as well.

At our park i meet up with a lovely Gordon Setter.

The local pet shop owns three Leonbergers.

I obviously have my two Large Munsterlanders - never seen another on any of my walks...ever!

There is a Spinone at training.

A friend of mine owns two Smooth Collies (and shows them too)

Another friend owns a Bavarian Mountain Hound and a Small Munsterlander (the latter being one of only around 12 in the UK i believe)

Well, I am in Braintree and see them there so yes, they must be the same ones! They are impeccably behaved, aren't they?

Resurrecting this because walking round the woods today, popped out of a path and practically fell over a Keeshond! Youngsters were of course very interested. It’s funny, I’d just met a sheltie, the breeder we got our Keesie from bred both. Then I saw an English setter, an Estrella and a Gordon setter (I think) with dog walkers. Have you seen anything unusual recently?

There is a seemingly permanently lame smooth collie that I see being walked quite regularly.

Also saw a Toller this week which I have not seen around here before.

A lady in the yard next door had a Chinese crested dog so used to see that quite a bit, and the lady in the feed shop has Bedlington terriers I hardly ever see any of them.

We’ve now got a leonburger in our area, he is huge and very hairy, the chap was quite surprised I knew what he was.. we’ve got lots of labs, collies, whippets, greyhounds and terriers and also lots of poo crosses . And I recently saw an English bull terrier , quite unusual for us in the sticks

A woman I work with has a Chow and another woman at work has a large munsterlander (I hope I've got that right).

I recently met a great dane, not majorly unusual I guess but I don't meet many! Met a man with an IWS recently too, they seem to be getting more popular lately, and I started talking to him about his dog. He informed me I had stopped him in a sainsburys carpark the other side of town last year, and my uncle bred his dog 😂 I remembered the conversation when he reminded me. I never let an IWS pass me by. So in short, I met an unusual dog and forgot I met him and met him again 😂
