do you keep yours in during the day when the weather is bad ? how bad does it have to be to keep them in ? last winter my boy went out every single day, even in the snow when a selfish livery refused to let us put hay out and with no help from an incompititant YM, he was quite depressed for those few snowy weeks needless to say i left soon after.. sorry bit of a rant off topic :D;)

As my field is quite small I have to be careful about turning out in bad weather as my field will become knee deep in mud (which I think is more damaging to the horse!) so for that reason I will probably limit turnout to about 6 hours a day, will turn out at about 2pm and bring in at around 8pm, on the worse days he may only go out for an hour or so.

Mine was out every day last winter from 8am till dusk.
Hes a big hardy cob and much happier out than in for a few hours whatever the weather - although he does have a thing about being the first out and the first in lol - last winter i swore he could tell the time!

Mine are out everyday :)

But when it snows they only go out while i muck out which is enough for them anyway cos they're bored by then :p

I try to put mine out every day. I usually turn out about 5.30am and he will come in lunch time ish. If its really lashing down then will leave in as all he does is stand by the hedge so he might as well be in eating hay!! When it snowed last winter he was in all the time apart from a few hours in the eve whilst I mucked out.

mine are turned out every day during the winter (only time I remember keeping them in was during the hurricane we had a few years ago - more because the trees were coming down and even the keenest goer-outer amongst them refused to leave his box)
However, I do open up the whole field so that they have as much range as possible - seems to reduce the mud problem and they can always find a sheltered bit if the weather's nasty.

It's very rare mine will stay in. Only if it's absolutly filthy and I mean really really. In the depths of winter, mine's out from about 10.30am to about 4 or 5pm.

Mine goes out from about 6.30am til about 4pm. There was only one day last winter he didn't go out and that was when no one else was turned out so he had to stay in.

Much happier out during the day but he also loves to come in by about 3 -4pm. :)

I turnout in the winter from 7.30am (before work) and the YM gets him in about 12ish so he's only out for 5ish hours.
He doesn't go out if it's frosty, icy or snow on the ground, unfortunately this meant that the winter just past he was in for nearly 3 weeks solid and then a few days at a time though the months. I don't see the point of trying to scrabble and slip across a slippy yard to a frozen field when they just stand there with no grass looking miserable.
The YO put straw on he floor around the yard so we could take them for a walk a couple of times a day and they all had 15 mins twice a day on the horse walker.
We couldn't get a horse to the school which being rubber was frozen anyway.
I'm quite lucky that my horse loves being in his stable but i can understand the frustrations of winter, for people who have horses that climb the walls being in.

My guys lived out 24/7 last year! The snow was uo to there knees some days. They had a nie big field shelter but they much preffered to stand out in the snow!!

My standardbred is quite a frantic box walker (my friend previously owned her) i moved my horses about a month ago i now have free use of stables but there is no field shelter. Do you think i should try keeping her and my other mare in on bad nights to see if she will settle to a routine? My concern is if i brought them in during snow and i get snowed out (quite likely!) and i cant get up to them to get them out that she will have walked a trench in the box!! So had thought about leaving them out in snow and in on bad rainy nights. Is that mean of me?? Sorry to highjack the thread i just couldnt make up my mind what to do!
