So, seeing as I'm not going to be able to use the pelham, I'm going to have to sort out some brakes in a snaffle...eeek!

I have a full cheek snaffle, and a cherry roller snaffle in my tack box. I've had a look on the BD website and it doesn't mention cherry rollers - so is that one out of the question or might I get away with it?

Other problem is that both of those bits are jointed - Murphy much prefers straight bar bits but I can't afford to buy a new bit at the mo (anyone got a straight bar snaffle gathering dust that would like a new home?!) Could I just attach my reins to the snaffle ring of the pelham and take the curb off as it's a straight bar bit?!

I will swap his bit over and start doing some practicing in the school - any advice for this? What do I do if he completely ignores the bit?! Help!

I can see my dressage test going something along the lines of
"Enter at C. Accelerate. Accelerate more. Exit at C"

You've done loads of schooling with him since you last tried riding in a snaffle, so I'm sure you'll find he'll be much more responsive. Also, if you ride the day before in the pelham, by the time he realises on the day of the test that you have swapped the bit, it will all be over

You can't use a pelham, however you attached the reins....you should be fine with the CR I think.

I've got a straight bar mullen mouth snaffle if you'd like to try that...

I've got a straight bar snaffle you could have for postage costs, but I suspect it's going to be too small for Murphy.

What's he like in double-jointed bits?

I do all my schooling with Chloe in her normal bit (waterford) and only put on the snaffle for competitions so she can't get used to it

We don't have the tanking off problems though

what size is your snaffle?

I've not tried a double jointed bit, but he never seemed completely happy in the single jointed ones, dentist had a look at the conformation of his mouth and suggested a straight bar mouthpiece and it does seem to suit him.

It does seem like a good idea not to let him get too used to a bit before the big day - I still defo need to try it out once or twice first tho so I know what I'm in for!!!

Not sure, but probably 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 ". Can measure tonight if it's any good to you. You might find he just takes hold of it and goes though! I used it on a very sensitive TB, and my current horses both just set their mouths and were off
