Foot issue

I've also used sheep foot rot stuff which you can spray into difficult areas.
Yes, that’s usually copper sulphate based, can buy at agri stores to put in a ‘tray’ to walk sheep and cattle through, in solution rather than the powder form, it’s effective.

A decent farrier will have copper sulphate on his truck. The horse needs a decent farrier visiting him regularly with far less than 6 weeks between the visits, to trim and balance appropriately and pack with copper sulphate, together with a cushing test to get a definitive answer to his immune system status. Reoccurring infections are a sign of advanced cushings disease. That is not my opinion that is guidance given on many veterinary papers and published guidance. What you might see on the outside of the horse in respect of cushings is not a reliable guide to what is going on in the inside.

Testing for Cushings can be done for just the price of the vet taking blood, with the lab test done free
Ask your vet about Care About Cushings
Yes - I had this done a few years ago now. Turned out not to be Cushings but EMS, but it was very reassuring just to be able to check for Cushings without worrying about forking out any more money. I was very grateful for that scheme.

Take a look at Cavallo's Barefoot Trim video online, and compare it to what you are seeing. Agree with the thrush being present. The deep crack you can see running up between the heels shouldn't be there - if you can imagine stretching the heel area to iron out the crease, that's what a healthy heel should look like. Will Lari stand with his foot in a bucket of iodine solution, or Dettol solution? A fifteen minute soak every day for a week will do wonders. And if you don't have any products to slather on afterwards, even zinc and castor oil baby cream mixed with honey will work. Press it into the cracks and paint the frog with it.

I see that you have posted on another thread today that Lari is still on a significant amount of pain relief even after last week’s farrier visit. Also on another different thread that you are think of having front shoes put on next time.

How is the thrush responding to treatment?

How’s Lari now, @Birker2020?
Hi thanks for asking. I'm down to 1.25 bute and 8 paracetamol between 2 feeds and he's doing brilliantly. 🤞🤞This has been gradually tapered down from 2 bute and 30 paracetamol, I've been reducing the bute at a much slower level.

He had another mad five minutes in the paddock last night when I turned out bucking and kicking and plunging and when I brought in at 5.30am this morning I thought he'd be a bit sore but he trotted towards me looking very sound. Think the rain has made the ground so much better to walk on and he's feeling happier again. Although strangely he's appears better on the concrete too at the moment. I did notice when he pivoted on his foot when I had to turn him tightly to switch off the main electric to the 'strip' that he was very ouchy as he pivoted. Can only assume it's the coffin joint with the pivoting motion. He was sound walking forward after that.

I didn't speak to the vet about his xrays because I can't afford to spend any non urgent money at the moment as I'm out of work and living off my savings again but as soon as I'm back regular freelance again I may go down the route of getting his coffin joint(s) medicated dependent on the vets opinion.

Tonight he had a roll and had no issues getting up using that leg/ foot to push up from. I try to keep an eye on him getting up and down as it's a major red flag to me if they start struggling with this, but he's totally fine and has the odd lie down too in his stable during the day.

I've brought his paddock forward by at least half the length (which is a fair bit) so I can strip graze it again as we've had so much rain. He wasn't very impressed. I thought I'd fool him by moving the electric fencing a couple of foot back but daft he ain't and it didn't fool him. Thinking of creating a 'track system' in his paddock as his neighbour had, keep him moving and grazing more naturally.

His neighbour on the other side has moved to a new yard so now he has nothing on either side of him but there are five down his 'strip' and he's not bothered, he's never been a clingy horse, i ised to turn him out for up to two hours with not a horse in sight and he never cared.

Hopefully we can continue to make progress into being bute free. It might be he needs a bute a day to relieve any niggles going forward and I'm happy to do that for him but if it ends up being two a day I will have to reassess.

Are you sure that you are on top of the thrush? Have the central sulci been thoroughly flossed and/or opened up to the air as well as being treated topically?

Active thrush can easily make a horse sore when pivoted even when on daily pain relief.

My experience of coffin joint medication in both fronts with Arthramid was very good, but the vet was pretty sure that the issue was the mild early inflammation visible in the coffin joints on X-ray.

If you do not have the thrush under control, but are giving the horse daily pain relief to mask the soreness, you risk ending up with a much bigger issue than you started with.

Here he is tonight, stills from the video!

How is the thrush going @Birker2020 ?
He looks great.
Hasn't any at all now. When the farrier came out he said he was fine, he cut some frog away.

I've managed to put it on YouTube!
Not sure what's got into him lately, can only assume it's the grass because this afternoon he's been high as a kite which is why I've brought his electric fencing right forward again. He's started a new round bale of hay Friday night but I can't think it's that. That's two of about six or seven lots of running around this evening 🙄

Nice to see but I'd settle for something between foot sore and training for The Derby! 🤣🤣

You know that youtube video has your name at the top?

My name has been broadcast on here before now, along with the company I worked at, I have an inkling this may have been the reason, or certainly contributed to the reason I lost my job. And my photo was apparently linked to my LinkedIn page and a number of other personal things. I had no idea.

I never realised until recently that people can put a photo of your house in an app for example, and it can reveal your address. I was told by PM this was also done.

So I'm beyond caring.

From things you have posted yourself!

You post photos of yourself in the 'photo today' thread so often. I know what a few people on here look like, as they may have shared the odd photo or two over the years, but everyone who looks at the photo thread will be very familiar with what you look like, as you remind everyone so often with your photos!

That's not to say you shouldn't do that - if you want to, then go for it - but if you are going to post so much personal stuff in public, you need to accept that so much personal stuff is in public!

You can't have it both ways - either don't post your personal details OR don't complain when people know your personal details.

I'm just intrigued that you can put a photo of a house in an app and it tells you who lives there.

I don't think those apps tell you who lives there, they will just give the street address associated with a house in an image using publicly available information like online real estate info and data from Google maps street viewer etc.

Well what a delightful reply JenJ. As usual.
