For foal cam addicts...

If you are not happy with anything you see on the cam do feel free to turn it off and do not watch. Please be aware this is their barn, their rules and there are things you don't see that happens off cam that may need thinking about before voicing concerns over the Horses' care on a public forum.

There is no need to fly off the handle. I was explaining what is going on over there in South Carolina so no one got any other ideas that things are bad there. I have watched this farm for 3-4 years now and they love their horses and any that go through their farm, and I hate that people can see what they see and not the whole picture. I think you'll find my tone is totally friendly and I am here to educate educate educate, not argue. :)

All I said was there was no interaction with the ponies. I do have other things to do than sit and watch this 24/7 so no, I haven't watched it all day.

I have not criticised their care in any way - where did you get that from? What did I say that was "voicing concern over the horses' care"?? I think what they're doing is great and never said otherwise.

I never wanted an argument!! Just shocked at being jumped at. And no I didn't find your tone very friendly.

Goodnight!

:)

I think with these cams, you have to bear in mind we are not seeing 24hours worth. I thought the mares had not a lot of interaction with people, until I saw a lady sitting in with Chantilly for a good while stroking her. So I guess we only see snippets.

The mare who just foaled did well, her colt is lovely!:)

I have noted several places where people have voiced concerns (if you aren't voicing a concern at the purported lack of interaction then you are making a complaint...) about Chantilly Lace being left indoors (I explained) and now about lack of interaction (I explained) and this needed addressing. If I am watching, I should be the one to attempt to dispel concerns (and anyone not watching as many hours as I may not see what happens there all day and therefore be concern) and this I will do. I reiterated their barn rules which is don't watch what you don't like please, and have done so without excessive punctuation or capitals (which I am told is how one appears angry on forums) and have been calm throughout. I am certainly not being argumentative to you or anyone, just stating the facts which I know where everyone can see so they know what is happening.

Goodnight to you also :)

I must admit Mayhem, unless you work at/run/own the yard they are at, and you're just a viewer like everyone else. I do think instead of 'educating' people, maybe just point them in the direction of the website comments section so they can ask those in the real know any questions (the owner of mare stare is on there). You did come across a bit....well can't think of the right word. Whilst I appreciate what you're are saying I don't think it is your place to educate anyone when you're only a viewer. Let the owner do that. :)

ETA I understand you have watched for years etc. It just seemed odd, unless of course you are more involved.

I'm actually in MSN contact with the yard owner most of my day/night, so am in the know with what is up with Chantilly and at the barn, Heather (Owner of Mare Stare) was the one told me they were battening down the hatches for the storm, so I am 'educating educating' with what I am personally told by the owner to avoid issues where people assume that the mares are not given enough attention/out time. Sorry, I must have forgotten to mention that I am pretty much 'in the know' as far as it goes :) I also do tend to forget to use emotes which can convey tone better then mere typing on these forums, so I may appear brash (I think that could be one word repeatable on public forums that may fit ;) ) but I don't intend to be here to argue, I'm passing on info that should maybe help people what goes on. Heather is pretty busy, or she'd probably be here telling you what was happening herself.

People are just talking about what they are watching. No need to educate us. It's all there in black and white :)

I can see the place is run well. I did comment earlier about lack of affection. Like when a poo picker goes in they often ignore her. But I appreciate when a place is busy, it's often last on the list.

ETA I don't think anyone wants to argue :)

Ah but they aren't seeing it all which leads to people not seeing what does happen. IE people don't see when people do go in and give her scritchies, and then it leads to people saying there's maybe a lack of affection, which is far from the truth and to be fair could make the farm look bad if people are just skimming through the thread. it's for their protection as much as people's education that I have posted with updates and let people know what is going on.

Chantilly is an outside mare, she's not as used to them giving her lovings, you all wait till Ace is on cam, she's just a regular lovebug, you all will LOVE her. Tho I'm not too sure if she's going to be on this year, I'll have to check.

And I can't really see why anyone would ever want to argue on forums, I know I get enough of that from my kids without wandering into someone's forum and doing it there!

I do appreciate what you're saying :) Just wish Chantilly would hurry up now! I bet I will either be asleep or at work! Knowing my luck. Speaking of which, my bed awaits me :)

Yes dang it, she needs to foal. there's Tess (who was in with her today) and Wendy waiting to foal after her... Two would be enough at the same time, Chantilly needs to get with the picture!

The QH colt needs a helping hand - he is now wearing a bib not a rug and I don't think he has managed to get a drink yet. Mare is a little free with her hinds and has sent him flying across the stable at least once! Poor little mite.
ETS - help arrived!

Its no wonder shes being free with her back legs, they got no time to bond at all. At least the poor thing managed to get a drink after it was messed with and messed with and almost fell over its rug and messed with some more. *grumble*

I'm sure everyone has different methods, and they may have just been checking on things that we couldn't see...if you don't like don't watch :D

The owners are on hand and are aware.

Please remember that this is their barn and their way of doing things.

With that in mind we are very hands on in our barn as well. We will assist with the foaling of Tilly and all the mares that come through. We towel dry and we remain in the stall. We have done this for years with no issues - it's our way of handling things and it works for us with the blessing of our vet.

So, while you are welcome in our barn, if these practices bother you please don't watch. Otherwise - enjoy and embrace the ways of others :D

Well i stopped watching. Because i will not embrace a foal getting no time to bond, and then being left to fall over a dangling rug. They were not on hand quickly enough to sort a rug which had been left unfastened. If that's their way of doing things whenever a foal is born i think one day there will be an unpleasant viewing on foalcam. Which is a shame because i normally love watching it.

100% agree, couldnt've said it better myself

The foal was not harmed, it was attended to quickly and everything is fine. If you choose to not watch that's your perogative. It's unfortunate that you aren't more open to the ways of others. As I said, we and many barns, have been hands on for years with no ill outcomes. What works for us may not work for you, and vice versa. But again - your choice. So sorry you will miss it as there is so much to enjoy and learn as well.

It may be their barn but they are live streaming it on the world wide web. If owners don't want comments than don't put it on the internet.

This.

I am open to the ways of others an i know some like to imprint their newborn foals, fine, but leaving the surcingle of a rug undone i think is asking for trouble on a creature which has been in the world for an hour and is having a hard enough time making his legs work. He was tangled in that rug. But remarkably calm. I just hope that none of their other foals end up in the same situation because it made my heart stop.

Tharq I have to disagree. These cams are put up to assist the owners with keeping an eye on their animals, not to provide a reason for criticism. Many, Many lives have been saved because of the live cameras. The more people that post negatively - the more cams that go private.

Everyone has their own way of doing things and even I don't agree with everything I see and when I don't agree, i shut the cam off. Posting my opinion won't do anything to change what is going on. I try to find the good in everything and I admire those that have the courage to open their private lives up to the world. I welcome everyone to do so. :p

I agree it was a dangerous situation. But whether they left the surcingle undone or it came undone is of little importance. It happened. Mistakes and accidents happen. Had they put the rug on and not had a cam they would have went out in the morning or hours later to a problem. Yes it was disturbing to see, but the cam and the calls corrected the problem.

Well, there you go.

Chantilly had her foal:) 10.45pm my time, Heaven know what it is there with Heather, but if any of mine obliged at this time of night I'd be quite pleased.

Definately the smallest foal I've ever seen! Congratulations to all - glad all went well after such a long wait.

I just want to know how small the foal slip must be!!!! :D

it is defianlty the custest foal! its just been bouncing round the stable and nearly got her mum in the face. So sweet! i knw it would of been last night and i missed it :( I am another one that dont agree with hands on unless there is a problem but evryone to their own. x
