Pictures For fun: What class & what turn out?

He is indeed PRExWelsh (25% D) so we can go in the wpbr classes but sadly no foreign breeds classes to be had where I am! I’ll chuck him in a few riding horse classes purely for the experience - I’m not clipping his legs for it but i could tidy up with scissors & I do need to tackle the mane a bit. Although I am intending to practice scallop plaits when we get a nice day, see if we can keep the waves!

The novelty classes are usually for young children getting first show experience in my area from what I’ve seen & they don’t need this lump of excitement entering and ruining the vibes 😂

Plaited mane & tail for riding horse? Black show jacket? Plain bridle ok?
Hopefully he is more sensible than my PRE x Welsh (25% B)!! I never did show mine, partly because no classes fit and partly because he’s nuts. I just did trec with him which was good for exposing him to life.

Yeah, not sure on that one. I’ve just lunged him as his last bit of exercise before we take stock to the RW (obviously, not him 😂) and he’s done his best stallion impression and f*d off to join the cows … got it together for attempt #2 but maybe I’m being a bit optimistic with this thread 🤦‍♀️

I was just looking through threads to remind myself of the plait vs pull schools of thought for showing & unknowingly clicked on my own thread from 2yrs ago looking for advice 😂🙄 at the time I started this thread he was still running quite hot but I said I’d post some pics of him if we ever did get out showing and in summer 2024 it happened! here he is 🙈 not the right bridle and I never trimmed his legs but we hit the WPBR classes. he behaved very well despite never being at anything like that before so hopefully we’ll do a few more this year with a bit more of the right gear… and half an idea 🤪 (and a trimmed not plaited tail I guess 😂)

ETA he’s still got his full mane - despite being long it’s actually looking after itself quite happily. I rarely brush it, doesn’t seem to get tangled and it’s not particularly heavy so I did scallop plaits because he’s not losing his luscious locks for a little bit of local showing!

He looks really smart. I think he could pass as a small hunter, you would need to trim up any feather though and show with a flat noseband.

Thankyou! He’ll be pleased to hear that as he is convinced he’s rather dashing 😉 I might experiment a bit this summer with a few more classes and see what the judges have to say about him!

He does look very smart and agree re the small hunter. He’s lovely.

Thankyou! Interesting you both say small hunter in response to him “dressed up” - that was exactly my predicament originally riding horse v small hunter if we were to try anything other than WPBR 🙈 I know he doesn’t REALLY fit either category but its nice to get out to the local shows over the summer 😇

Admittedly many years ago I had a 7/8ths thoroughbred who I show jumped then started showing. Affiliated he was a riding horse but locally he’d do both riding horse and hunter if not the same judge. He’d also do best turned out, best condition, competition horse, riding club horse and veteran when old enough! Not all the same day ……

A very versatile chap!
