why do you have more than one and how do you manage to ride/excercise them etc etc
smile.gif

We have three horses between two of us and until November 07 had four, we have two who are ridden by me and sister and a retired lady who will be with us until her quality of life is no longer good (as was the case with the one who went in November)

We have four between my mum and me and one I ride for someone else. One is out of action at the moment. I have a girl that comes and rides one but it is more of a favour to her than for my benefit. You just have to be organised alternate days off and activities ie lunge one, school two, one has day off. Hacking is the most time consuming so I limit that to weekends and holidays but we ride out together so we can get two or three done at once. I'm lucky though because mine are at home and we have an arena don't think I could manage travelling on top.

Ride? Ride?
When I could be doing Parelli - are you mad?
The honest answer is that I have three - but two are not yet broken. I bred one as the future replacement for my 19yr old TB, and the other one I just acquired.

We have 3 between us (and possibly one more coming, but not sure when as still un decided wether or not to look for another one!), I ride one (or both if mum doesn't want to ride!) and the other is pretty much retired fromm being ridden!

I find it quite easy to ride them both if I'm riding both lol!!

but then i have a brill mum who helps me tack up and groom, so it's quicker!! LOL

we have 4 , one is a brood mare one is a rising 2 yr old , one is 18 and downgraded to teeny comps and lots of hacking and the other is just starting his eventing career my husband and i both ride and work , we ride together alternative days and i ride and lead a lot in winter if i,m short of time

I have two, but they're only for messing about on, not serious competing, so I ride one or the other, or both, or neither, depending on how I feel each day
smile.gif
looking after them both is hard because it's twice the work (and i'm on my own yard) but on the other hand, if one loses a shoe etc I still have something to ride

I have two horses. I keep them at home so have 2 to keep each other company. In the summer I ride them after work, some times my mum will ride one with me or a friend will come over.
Hopefully this winter, my mare will go to work so I can ride her in my lunch break and Gyp will pretty much have the winter off as I will only be able to ride him twice a week. I am hoping to find a little friend for him so he doesn't get lonely.

I have 4. Tazz is 23, my best friend and will be with me forever! Crystal is 13 and has been with me since she was 2, she thinks Tazz is her mum, the two are inseperable(sp). Robbie (unless sec a!) came to keep Crystal company while I was out on Tazz and vice versa. Jack arrived when Tazz stopped competing at bsja level, he's a lovely person and gets bullied by the girls! I will never sell Tazz, I can't get rid of crystal as I don't know what she'd do without Tazz and the other way round. Robbie cost next to nothing to keep and would be usless other than as company for another horse, he's no trouble either and Jack is my main horse for competing now! Robbie isn't broken yet, but I have a kid inm ind to ride him when he is, I ride Tazz Mon, Wed, Fri and teach the kid on her on a sat. Crystal goes out Tues, Thurs and sat and Jack works 6 days a week. We compete on a Sunday. I have no time for anything else but wouldn't have it any other way. When you have more than 1 all you need is a routine and to stick to it. Works for me, I'm a happy but tired bunny!!!

I have 3, one I ride everyday or as near as damn it (sometimes more than once!), one is on more or less full loan so he is ridden by his loaner (although I even rode him tonight) and the other is pretty happy as an as and when horse, she gets ridden between 2 and 5 times per week, by me, loaner or any friend who fancies a hack!

We have four, one is my husband's, one my daughter's, one my daughter's previous pony who we cant bear to part with, and lastly mine.

My daughter's pony is kept for for competing, but the others just get hacked/schooled a couple of times / week then hacked at weekends.

I have 3 of my own plus I have a small livery yard of which 2 are on full livery with me and 3 on part livery. I feed at 6.30am then turn out the ones that I am not schooling at around 7am, drive 50 miles (there and back) taking my son to school then get back around 9am to school my own horses (dressage) then the mucking out starts usually 5 stables but sometimes 7. I tend to finish at 2.30pm grab a sandwich then set off another 50 miles to collect my son from school. Back to make pm feeds and get all 8 horses in. Its about 7pm then I start cooking for us, eat at 8pm stack dishwasher at about 9pm, sort my son out ready for bed for 10pm. Sit down and veg til around 11.30pm then go and do a final check on horses and Oh thank goodness its time for bed!!! What a boring life I lead when I actually sit down to answer your question and look its 10.10pm!! Oh and somewhere in all this I take my son for extra evening lessons and I travel 35miles to my trainers for a lesson myself twice a month!

We have five and another on the way...
smile.gif

They are: A 16-3 Trak X mare whose in foal - she's my horse and will never leave me. She is ridden when not in foal.
We also have 4 ponies, 1 section A, 2 section Bs and an 11-3 CHAPS cob. The first pony is now 23 and will never leave us. She has taught at least 6 children to ride and still enjoys life and has a fast gallop or slow walk depending on whose riding. One of the section Bs was bought as a 3 year old to back and bring on for when the cob is outgrown. The other is a rescue pony who came to us in a really bad way but is doing well. Eventually both of these will be sold to buy the next project when my daughter outgrows the cob. The cob competes regularly and has taken her from local to county level shows.
Riding? The ponies are ridden atleast once every three days (except the rescue pony) but she has been known to ride all of them in one day after school.
Time? We just find it and I suppose in terms of life we don't really have one outside of the horses! Luckily hubbie and son are very considerate and help with poo picking etc.

i only have one ridden one. the other is retired due to injury. i gave him 2yrs to come sound, but he didn't despite lots of £££ and lots of rest, so he's now living out his life in luxury and i've just got a new one for riding.

i have two and a half my 16.1 dressage horse my 18 yo 14.2 ex ja pony and my daughters shetland who's only 37 inches high hence the half lol i manage fine either ride and lead or school and hoping to get another pretty soon yeay!!mind you i do keep them outside our house which makes life easier.

ok... I look after 11 every day, 7 of them are my own, consists of 4 ponies, 2 2 year olds, 1 3yr old being backed, 1 5 yr old which does lessons, 3 horses, 1 rather naughty one, one getting older boy, and one summer project, then 1 which isnt actually mine, but may as well be (has a bit of a story, but basically owners would never sell but would also never ride him themselves due to a few bad experiences and worse stories and so since i re-backed him hes just satyed!) 3 full liveries, 1 broken one, 1 show jumping mare that i exercise 3 times a week, and 1 3 yr old pony which im backing. Plus theres a DIY on the yard to, which i have to turn out etc on frequent occasions.

Why i have more than one... i dont know! i sometimes wish i could go back to one, however none of them will ever go anywhere (except the one that was brought to be sold obviously!) its been an ever growing collection, the majority of which have arrived due to me being told an unwanted story or two about it.

how i do it.... well, i have no such thing as a social life, i physically couldnt do a full time job if i tried (have a part time which is looking after more horses!) and i frequently dont get in from the yard untill around 11pm, having left that morning at 7am. They all live out except the broken full livery, and i do have help from friends etc in order to do the poo picking a couple of times a week, who i then chuck up on a horse to say thank you (this evening i had two friends come down who helped me do a mass tidying session on the yard, my barn and tack room are now spotless
smile.gif
) I ride as often as possible, but don't beat myself up if i dont get round to it, aslong as all the horses are happy and healthy thats all that matters to me

I have 9. 2 youngsters one yealing and one 2 year old my cxcountry mare 2 ponies i had when i was young my mothers a project that i bough and is having time off a mare i bought to bring on and i now going in foal and a pacer that is with me for retirement from the track

I have 6, and the short answer is that I have no life and I am knackered most of the time!!

To be fair I only ever attempt to keep 2 fit, but then feeling "guilty" if I only focus on 1 at a time.

I generally stick to an every other day plan during the week as I with work I only have a limited amount of hours and I think riding one properly is more beneficial than doing 2 quick sessions

I also knobble any horseless friends to ride out, as its great to get 2 ridden!

I had 3 polo ponies....self explanatory really...I luckily can take all 3 out at once but i tend not too as nothing beats riding them individually!

As for regular exercise...I ride each 2/3 times a week, it is fine in the summer as i can go out for an hour after school. At weekends i play polo both days so exercise is pretty much covered for all 3....

Winter is hard...I usually let 2 of them go onto much lighter work loads and then keep one fit for hunting etc and so i only ride at weekends which luckily keeps them in good shape as they are out 24/7

i would say...the more you own, the more your life becomes consumed with them and the dirtier they get!

Also it is good to do lots of other activities to keep you interested besides hacking eg. i do pc rallies and invite friends over to ride to pubs>>>it makes it much less of a chore even though it is not essential to my chosen discipline!

Does this thread mean you have several horses yourself?

um er 20
grin.gif
I feed them and not myself or the family. I make sure they are warm in winter and we go without heating. Some are ridden, some play in the field and are nice to look at. It takes all day to care for them, in shifts with daughter sometimes as i am supposed to be working but spend too much time on here. I have just about finished working - its now the next day-oops, got to be up early.
I can remember haveing one
grin.gif
I had lots of fun until i joined a rideing club and discovered i did not care much for horsey people

HHO peeps are an exception of course :grin
I forgot to add i have 20 because i am a cleptomaniac - or is that just maniac?

Very tired

Good night

started with one and ended with 3!

the second was aquired as I felt responsible for her future and my 1st was needing a quieter life the 3rd (a pony) was originally aquired for YM granddaughter, for a project for me and most importantly a companion for 1st when 2nd is out competing.... YM doesn't want him for her granddaughter now so he is all mine!..... oops!

Ive got four. One is a foal out on the forest so dont have to do anything with that (havnt even seen it, wouldnt know if it only had three legs!) the second is a project to sell on shortly so that gets ridden, the third is a 2yo so just out in the field enjoying his childhood and the fourth is a 17yo who has a part loaner, he was my first pony so will never be sold.

I have 3 soon to be 4!
First is my first pony he's 20 i've had him since he was 5, then its my dad's horse, then my hunter, then i'm getting another hunter. I like 4 as a round number!

I have 2 used to have 3 put was unfair to have the third as I was really too big for her....
My old pony is 30 now and will never be sold as owe everything to her and she is just the love of my life....
Charly is 6 and he is my bigger horse who I ride but is on box rest for 1 month so really could do with a 3rd as miss riding already and its only been three days!!
A nice highland would be good

I have 4.

Salad I ride a couple or 3 times a week if I have time, he gets to do a lot of the ride and lead stuff with my little girl.

Molly is 6yo and I ride her most often, she's fab, bless her so much fun. She'll be off work for a while because we had a nasty accident out on a hack 2 nights ago when she got tangled in an old saggy barbed wire fence at the side of a bridleway - we were both hurt(local bridleways officer is spitting nails now because she's been fighting for them to have that fence imporved for some time)

Gigi is 12 but was only just backed at Christmas. She's hacking out nicely, but since the weather dried up has been footy on the hard ground (she has quite flat feet) so she's being shod before coming back into work. I've been riding her about 3 times a week.

Charly has lymphodema and isn't ridden atm.

So they normally get ridden 2 to 3 times a week and more when I have free time.
