Here are the Xrays of Rage's left hind, showing the extra bone on the outside of his pedal bone.

In the left image, which was taken first, you can see why they initally thought we were dealing with a wing fracture of the pedal bone.
The second image shows it much better, and how squiffy his pastern/hoof has gone in just a fortnight or so

Admittedly it was never 100% perfect, but it was never that bad!

Just thought some might find this interesting

X-rays are fascinating, aren't they? Your first lateral view is much better than Henry's. I think my vet had one drink too many when she took his! At least you've got a good, strong attachment, there. On Henry's you can see the clear line where detachment had started to take place (laminitis).

Gosh thanks for sharing that, that is really interesting. I love looking at things like that, its amazing to see what is going on right inside where your own eyes are not able to see.x

Glad you both liked them - there have got to be some benefits to having an 'abnormal' horse

Not sure if you two were around when Rage's KS was diagnosed, but these are the most fascinating xrays I've come across so far....

Looking fine from the outside (pics taken on same day as xrays below)....

And what was going on within...

Yes, I have seen similiar photos, my friends horse was diagnosed with KS and I saw his xrays. I also saw the xrays of my previous boy who was put down with wobblers. His xrays showed very poor gaps in the spinal column and facets in fact the gap was 13mm in places and was meant to be 47mm to allow the spinal cord and nerves to pass through untouched. Just before he was put down (20 mins after diagnosis) he looked amazing, shiny coat, good weight, bright eyes (before the heavy sedation), good appetite. It's so hard to believe there is anything wrong when you seen them look so good - until in my boys case you saw him staggering about when moved. RIP Rommy. x

Yep - been there just before Xmas when I had to have my 6yo PTS due to Wobblers - she had extreme narrowing of the vertebral canal in several places, malarticulation of the vertebrae and at C2/3 she had very spiny bits of extra bone which were putting alot of pressure on the spinal cord - the vertebral canal there looked like it had a 'starburst' of bone there

. Her Xrays were amazing, but I'm still a bit too raw to be able to look back on them as being interesting

Boo the morning she was PTS
