foreign horses

There are plenty of seriously talented TB's, Irish Horses, Continental horses etc out there, as well as lots of "duds" of all types, regardless of breeding ;)

Some of the best SJing lines are irish, but there are of coure lots of very good continental lines too ;)

A lot of people go for the big flashy warmblood with huge paces and jump, and find they can't ride one side of it... :p Similarly don't knock the irish horses as being the straightforward ones, as a lot can be sharp and quirky ;) It varies from horse to horse :)

thanks! i personally love irish horses, and sorry about the legs, i buy direct from ireland not imported so usually they dont have the same issues. I just see so many foreign horses out jumping atm that i got paranoid about buying an irish one.
Thank you

i cant decide weather i need a horse with some warmblood in it, for it to be able to win classes out show jumping. any one had any real success on irish/tb horses?

if i had 9k to spend i would buy a wb. Not sure what you mean about leg problems? A 4 year old imported directly from a breeder is unlikely to have any problems, but surely you'd get it vetted and x-rayed (which you absolutely need to do) which would rule out any issues.... Horses are imported because it is a business, people import to sell, make money not specifically because of leg problems.

So don't worry about the rumours you've heard. Most showjumpers ride round on continental horses quite frankly because they are better at the job (sure there are many irish horses just as good, although personally I've never had one).

Whatever horse you buy the best thing you can put your money into is training and as much of it as you can afford! x

Not to mention that a lot of "Irish" horses now have Continental breeding in them! ;)

If you look down the list at the WEGs, it's a mixed bag as far as studbooks go. But if you look at the actual breeding, there are very few horses jumping top class these days that aren't warmblood. There are some lovely Irish horses and, I'm sure, some not so lovely ones. Just like any studbook.

Which doesn't mean you have to have one - there have been some very good TB and even "unknown" jumpers - but it would suggest you're more likely to find what you're looking for in that pool.

Ive had plenty of success on my ISH X Connie 15hh horse.. he goes out with stable stains and me in my eventing stuff and beats warmbloods in Senior Newcomers when there 40+ starters, 19 in JO.. I dont think you need a warmblood for sj.. not in my exp :P though i have just bought a 5yo Dutch Warmblood to event.. LOL. xx
