Forum Peeves

"As you all know...".

Well actually no, we don't all know. I'm not on here 24/7 and I doubt many people are (well, maybe a few). So either give the short version or refer to a previous post, but don't assume I have no life other than following yours

And I always look at posts with no replies, because I think its rude too. But then I find sometimes they are asking something waaaay too tricky for me to answer so I end up not replying either or politely suggesting they try vet or breeding

People who expect people on a forum to be able to diagnose their horse's medical issue from some sort of description, but won't call the vet out

Yes, vets are expensive, but they are, on the whole, the people whoes job it is to diagnose and propose treatment.

What are the red numbers??!!!!!

The only thing that bugs me on this forum is the 'you can not perform a search at this time' page.. drives me nuts!
 
The red numbers are on the left hand side of the "title " of each post telling you how many new posts there are on it

For some reason, they're all jumbled and will tell you theres 23 new posts when infact there is 1..
 
Agree with most of all the above!!!

Especially those that ask for advice but don't callthe vet becaue they can't afford it. Simply put if you can't afford to call the vet you can't afford a horse!!!

I can't stand text speak and don't bother reading those posts/threads/responses on any of the forums I am a member of. If they can't be bothered to write than I can't be bothered to read.

People who write a mass of text with no paragraphs or worse still in capital letters.

Cliques and rudeness (this forum being the worst I've come across).

People jumping to massive conclusions and labling people just because of badly worded phrases and feelings instead of trying to understand the message (this forum being the worst I've come across).
 
My pet hate about forums - people who hide behind the anonymity of a user name to say things that they would not have the guts to say to your face.

People who post to cause upset or irritation, and don't add to anyone's understanding of the issue being discussed. They're always anonymous of course.

Menage when it should be manege. I just hate giving the French a reason to laugh at us.

you can toggle/favourite threads that you think you want to go back to.

and any others you have posted on you can click on your name when you post and show all user posts and your last 200 posts will come up.
 
Ah, so now I know what the red numbers mean!

Not a real peev...but I wondered when first joining if there was an HHO elite who ran certain threads...Sweet FA for example and its equivalent in Soapbox (can't remember what that one's called)..and then I realised you were all so warm and embracing anyone could stumble in there and join in.

I think it's because you join and feel a teeny bit of an outsider for a while as everyone seems to know each other so well. And obviously I count for nothing horse knowledge wise unless I've posted thousands of the things so couldn't be trusted...

And my only other peev is directed at myself, I really wish I was as genuinely witty as some of you...you make my evenings sometimes and make me roar with laughter - thank you!

MochaD- The last word (TLW2 cos we filled the other one up) we are all loosing at getting the last word but I dont think it matters

I think its rude - specially when another more prolific poster will post similar and get 2 pages of replies.

when people get shirty with you because you dared to suggest someone try a stronger bit (after they posted asking for bit suggestions!)- you didn't want to say check back, teeth etc because that would be patronising...and then u get told off by someone with nothing better to worry about!

also the people who PM you and say "i know you in real life and i will tell X that you have talked about them"- it would be much more mature to actually admit who you are...surely?!!

Mine would be when you post something and people dont read it properly and they give a rather stupid answer or a narky reponse. Must admit the red numbers can also be annoying.

The 'what's wrong with my advert' posts, which then list the full ad and all the horses history, with photo.

This is AN ADVERT. Its against forum rules and taking the micheal. If you really want help try 'how do you describe blah blah in an advert'

And users that can't accept another point of view, or way of handling a horse, just because its not their way or view. Doesn't mean its cruel or wrong.
