Found a horse this morning

Went out to give my horse his breakfast found a spare horse standing outside my stables. It was only about 13.2 but it was as fat as it was tall so iv got a bit of mud patch fenced of so struck it in there he hobbled very foot sore anyway rang around at six in the morning finally found owner decides to turn up at eleven to come and get him no headcollar just a whip so lent her a headcollar she started leading him and because he cant walk very fast started beating him well rage took over i took the whip of her told her the horse had start of laminites and thats why he couldnt walk well. she looked at me as if i was talking another language i tried to explain all about it she said well if he dies i can get a new jumping pony. I was in shock stood there like a goldfish didnt know what to say to that. Needless to say she didnt get to take him back as told her im going to report. Hes a nice pony as well what a shame I have reported it waiting for someone to come out today.
 
This has made me so angry! Good for you. I hope that poor pony doesn't have to go back to her. This is one of the rare occasions I would rather see the pony PTS than go back to that abuse.

Well done you chick for standingup for the poor lil fella and reporting it, lets hope something is done about it, neglect for letting it get fat and jeez not recognising lami!!!

Well done you! I agree & would have been tempted to use whip as well, so even bigger well done for being restrained ;)

Is it just me or for the horse to have got to your yard in that state seems odd, perhaps owner trying to get rid & thought by letting it out or similar someone else might sort it out?

Might be being unfair there but just seems odd that a pony in such pain would walk at all voluntarily???

Which makes me even madder :( Keep us updated!

She didnt know how long he been gone by the amount of poos hes left i would say all night must live out i think. He not far from me max 1 mile.
 
is the pony kept on its own? I am somewhat surprised to hear that a laminitic pony voluntarily walked a mile, I can only think of a situation where it is kept alone and that there were no other equines for it to pass on its journey. How odd
 
Yes hes on his own in field in the back garden would have thought she would have noticed pony gone i know i would have. I am the next stop with horses

Ah yeah, thanks. That's loads more responsible then. :p The owner's still a moron, but maybe things will work out better for the pony. Good luck with it OP, it sounds like you'll need it dealing with this.
 
Wow I never cease to be amazed by some people's behaviour :( good on you OP it took major guts to step in and take control of the situation like you did, I truly hope the welfare charity steps in and does something about the situation. I would, however, give the citizens advice a quick call just to check where you stand legally in the situation, you really don't want to be left on the wrong side of the law with it all...just a thought. Good luck, and I hope the pony does well with you.
 
Sorry iv just had the animal welfare people out they agree with me the horse is in pain and are going round the persons house to have a chat with her. In the meantime they have asked if i could keep the horse until they find space so i dont think she will be allowed to have him back not sure yet so im getting a stable ready for him is this right so far iv soaked hay three times bought woodchips loads no hard food and done a track for him in my winter field that has no grass is this ok so far Iv never had a pony with lamanites before so this is new to me.
 
If the pony is confiscated, wont the woman who owns him be trouble to you if she knows you've taken him in? She'll presumably put two and two together and fathom that you reported her. I'm not suggesting for a second that you've done anything wrong whatsoever, but it could prove troublesome if the Welfare Org home him so locally with you, even for a short time. Just make sure you know what you're taking on (potentially).
 
She knows i reported her told her to her face and her stupid parents who came to give me a mouthfull of abuse. I dont care whats wrong is wrong they said hes lame because she had ridden him the day before that might be why he in so much pain now that seem normal to them anyway its out of my hands now im just going to provide for him while hes here

Brilliant that the welfare are now involved and pony can be helped.

Yes by the way, to your question re: soaked hay and shavings perfect and the stripped grazing as you should never starve a lami, just reduce the intake

Yes, the soaked hay and deep shavings bed is brilliant. You will need to keep him in until the lami episode has gone, but make sure you keep a constant trickle of well soaked hay going through him :) Has the welfare org sent a vet to advise you and give him painkillers etc, or have they said to use your vet and they will re-imburse you? x
 
Good on you for doing what you did, I don't condone violence, but, I think she would have been running like crazy up the road with me chasing her with my hunting whip and cracking her arse with it every time she dared to slow down!!! :D
