After the upset of a few weeks ago when my new mare died at her old home on the morning when I was due to pick her up, I have carried on looking for a new hacking buddy, on loan, I hoped, and my hopes have just been dashed again and again, people changing their minds, arranging to meet me and then just not turning up, I was beginning to think that I had unwittingly upset someone!
On Sunday, after driving 60 miles to be met by someone who just never turned up, I was feeling very low. My daughter went on Facebook and, unknown to me, asked if anyone knew of a nice, safe little horse who needed a new home.
And lo and behold! The Face book Gods must have been smiling because a girl who my daughter knows slightly popped up and said "I know of an RDA pony who needs to be retired to a new home"!
And so Rufus is coming home next Friday! Although after everything that has happened, I won't believe it untill he's actually in the stable looking at me!
He is elderly and needs some special care but that's ok by me, I can't wait to get pampering him, and I will need lots of advice from all you lovely people out there as I have never had an older horse before and I want to get it right and keep him happy and comfy for as many years as possible.
Yipppeeee!!!!

Fingers crossed for you.
Lucky Rufus!
My gran always says 'what's for you won't go by you', maybe he was waiting for you all along!
Best wishes and post some pics when he arrives.
:)

You've really been through it all trying to find a new one haven't you?! :( Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly with Rufus though, he sounds great! Good luck with him, we need lots of photos on his arrival :)

Thanks everyone! He's 22 and a bit arthritic, but still being ridden, not lame just stiff, and has been a wonderful servant for the RDA for 12 years, so he deserves as much love and attention as I can lavish on him, I reckon!
The manageress of the RDA centre is lovely and really concerned that he gets the right home for the rest of his days, and he will enjoy his hacking instead of going round the school all the time, so I've just got to keep him as happy and comfy as I can.
Cant wait!

Oh, bless you, Flirtygerty, hope the day starts to improve for you!
Thanks for the good wishes everyone, just got to dig in and wait now, and hope that nothing goes wrong this time.
