Fractured bottom incisor tooth?!

So I noticed today that my boy has a fractured/cracked bottom incisor tooth. It's cracked right down the middle of the incisor, so half of the tooth is still embedded in the gum and then there is just a massive gap, where obviously the tooth has broken and gone, so it's just gum, and then the next incisor... and because of the gap you can see all the blackness up the side of the tooth. Poor pony :( (sorry it's explained badly).
Calling the vet/dentist tomorrow asap. He's fine in himself, eating, drinking, everything normal, other than the past 2 days, after i've ridden i've noticed some white sticky snot out of his right nostril, but it's not running and it's not constant, and isn't smelly, so not sure if that's even related?
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? How possible is it the tooth will get infected/what are the symptoms? Do you think it will need extracting? Do they always extract a fractured tooth?
TIA

sorry to hear that. generally incisors broken due to accident, (unlike this issue) Also some of older horses may lose incisors or canines rarely.
but it seems your pony has another problem. could you look at the picture, is it smilar ? and please look at the gumline it is swollen which shows that there is a root problem inside.
if you touch to tooth, does he feel pain ? viggling? if it is like picture, may need extracring. if viggling %100
Also please check the gumline , do you see any black point bottom of the tooth?

good luck...let us know what is going on

Ted has had a broken one for two years the longer they can be left alone the
better , however he is slightly adjusting his bite now .
I will manage it for the winter and probably have it removed next spring .
