Freak injuries

I got off out hunting and gave my horse to another rider to hold, then i hopped over a gate to hide behind a water trough to have a secret pee. Did have a pee then stood up and some brambles had attached themselves to my breeches which sent me lurching forward, landing face first on the back edge of the trough. Result - buttons popped off hunt coat, soaking wet up to the elbows including front of chest, and a bloody nose. Staggered back to horse and said 'don't ask ok' got on and headed home.

YO's big mare has a big long stride, and one day I was bringing her in and she just caught the side of my foot with her (unshod) hoof. Didnt stand on it properly, just caught it slightly. But she broke my toe!

My instructor was riding Ellie one day when we had hired out a school. He was taking her through a grid; she caught the last pole (about 4ft) with her hind legs and just pecked a little on landing, and he came out the side door. He landed on his feet....but snapped both bones in his lower leg clean in two!

And my own accident, also during grid work. Ellie decided to take two elements of a bounce on at the same time (

) and somersaulted over, landing on top of me. Somehow I walked away with just a busted hand....

i got my finger stuck in my ponys headcollar when he pulled back and snapped the tendon in my finger, thought i broke it with a little white thing popping ou under the skin. luckily not

tendon hurt just as much though. *touch wood* iv been lucky.
prince was eating his feed once and i was stood infront of him. he flung his head up and smacked me right in the face! thought i had broken everything in my face. just bruised lol.

Bella managed to spin, plant her foot on my and nudge me with her shoulder all in one move. Cue me sat on my bum in the grass

Today riding a borrowed horse, going through gate my friend was holding open. got a bit too close to the post and banged my knee off it

Whip lash as 16.3 horse thought he could get under a very low branch of a tree, he got under I didnt and threw myself backwards to avoid it. I ended up with my head hanging down near my stirrups, bent backwards, facing backwards.

I wasnt concentrating on what I was doing, I was talking to friends and horse decided to teach me a lesson. He is a bolshy yob at times.

I have more

Fell off, stupidly my fault, broke 3 ribs but the freaky part is I snapped the underwire in my bra and impalled myself on it.

Went to grab the mane when struggling to mount a friends horse, the horse was hogged and so there wasn't anything to grab and I ended up hanging over the other side with my foot wedged in the stirrup and my head underneath the horses belly.

Me too!!!! I was pmsl at that one!!!

Got my foot stuck in the mud, horse spooked and I fell flat on my face! Horse jumped over me, missed my head by an inch, but used my foot as a lever and broke it!!! I was so cross I got up and hobbled after her shouting obscenitites!!!

Fell off the top of a five barred gate once, had a drop of three feet underneath, wrecked my knee, but I was laughing so much at the time I just stepped back thinking i was on the bottom rung. The friend that was with me said I just sort of disappeared!!!

My mum once broke her finger when jumping my pony because he stood off and took her by surprise and she got left behind.

Mine is probably the accident I had in January where I fell off our young horse, my hat came off and I was knocked out. I was taken to hospital with concussion.

Just remembered another one - Ellie and I were out on an epic 8 hour hack, which took us on a byway up to the Ridgeway. At the entrance to the byway there were four big white bollards to stop the Land Rovers going up there - there was about a metre gap in between each one. Ellie freaked out when I asked her to walk through them, and because the entrance backed onto a road I ended up getting off rather than fighting with her. She was happy to follow me through them....but decided when she was between them that they really were terrifying, and leapt sideways, crushing me against one

I went instantly black all down my right side, and it hurt so bad I had to walk most of the way home (7 miles

Nah, she's actually not that conniving - her naughtiness tends to be...spontaneous, shall we say

Years ago I jumped off 1 of the p-2-p'ers to close a gate, landed on my ass as my knee gave way, all the cartilidge had collapsed inside.

Couple of years ago, fractured my other kneecap getting caught up on the electric fencing whilst bringing bud in.

Leaning over the gate to check the electric fencing, forgetting the metal hinge and got a shock straight through boobs, the squeal I let out made the YO jump and then he fell about laughing

I dont believe it - I've just remembered another one; how bad am I making my poor horse sound!?!

About a week after I first got her, I decided to see if Ellie was any good at standing whilst I opened a gate from the saddle. She was actually very well behaved....until a crow flew out of the hedge. I was leaning right out of the saddle when she spooked sideways, and I had no chance - I fell straight off, and smacked my head on a stone

I still didnt let go of the reins though, and Ellie proceeded to pirouette around me and then trod on my upper arm

I never had it seen to, but she must have badly damaged the muscle as it is lumpy to the touch and occasionally achy even now, nine years on! There was also an impressive shoe-shaped bruise, complete with nail hole indentations

Not particularly severe but this winter I was flinging Ronnie's rug across his back and one of the trigger clips from the front caught me in the mouth, I ended up splitting one lip and with a blood blister that was huuuuuge on the other lip. I did look a sight!

i got my fingers stuck in the lunge line my boy took of pulled my fingers to gether and that broke one finger and dis lodged the other that hurt!

i never get hurt riding but yard chores and things are another matter!

strained tendons in right wrist from doing a girth up from the ground at a funny angle. torn tissue in right wrist (five minutes later) from doing a girth up from the ground at a funny angle with a strained tendon.
dodgy tendon/rsi in left wrist from poo picking: when you pivot the scoop mid-air to empty it into the wheelbarrow my wrist just repeatedly collapses!

after a ride my dad tried to climb a five bar gate without turning around for the descent - his boots were muddy so he slipped and landed like a teddy bear on his bum and knuckles! was so embarrassed he just leapt up - muttering - and carried on with things, but his little finger bone and tendon was snapped completely in half!

one riding one - was riding under a little concrete underpass that had a metal five bar gate at the entrance. was just about to open the gate properly as it was only wide enough for a horse and not legs either side when my horse spooked and bolted through it. wasn't wide enough and my right knee went into then round the other side of the wooden post and my left went the other side of the gate, making us stuck. she panicked that she couldn't move and just kept ramming my knees forward into the wood and metal. i cr*pped myself because no one was around and it felt like she was going to just break one of my legs backward from the hip if she pushed hard enough. she finally backed up to take a run up for her next go and i had a split second to push the gate open and we bolted through! funny in hindsight but the bruises on my knees were mad, and a huge gash down my thigh from the wood!

(sorry that was so long, hard to explain)

My friend dislocated her knee getting on her horse. Not sure how that happens??? :P
Oh and I have taken half of my thumbnail off by simply shutting the stable door.

i've had loads of stupid incidents, of course they are all someone else's fault and never my own stupidity! lol

the latest one was whipping myself with a lunge whip, i got a bit carried away chasing ponies in the arena and it came back and whipped my back, got a nice mark there now!

i do keep telling people that i'm dangerous with a whip and lunge line but no one believes me!

Not freaky but a freak injury, if that makes sense :p

I got kicked in the face. It went through my cheek completely, severed the nerve so it didn't hurt ;) It also cracked my cheek bone. I had an operation to sew my face back together and had to have 7 stitches on the outside and about a million on the inside. Didn't lose any teeth amazingly! x

my horse managed to knee me in the face when i was attempting to remove the poo stains from his legs before a show - the lump was quite impressive.
I've also managed to fall off onto several different things such as parked cars, jump wings and poles.
thankfully the car owner was more worried about me being knocked out than any damage to their bumper

I took all the skin from my knuckles squeezing slices of hay into a dustbin to soak it. I was pushing and pushing the it gave way ripping my skin off to the bone on a sharp edge. Not enough left to stitch it and it took ages to stop bleeding. Had to have a graft to help cover it!

Rotation of both knees after horse I was riding managed to slip into leccy fencing, just remeber being up in the air then waking up in hospital with sore legs :o

Other on was putting breaking my finger after hitting it with a sledge putting in fence posts for my school.bone was poking through the skin, that hurt like buggery :o

I managed to dislocate my knee while mounting :o .Or trying to.The girth wasn't tight, the saddle slipped and I stupidly hopped along, one foot in the stirrup.Until my knee went pop. Then I laid on the ground and screamed a bit. I also cracked my jaw by sliding down pony's neck(when she refused the 1st fence) and landing chin first on a showjump.Took 3 poles down with my face and was escorted out the ring by the first aiders.

Horse did a massive cat leap over a jump and I landed on her neck, wriggled back into the saddle and carried on riding with one hand as my shoulder was hurting, found out later I'd managed to get the head of my humerus stuck behind my scapula, apparently it's quite an unusual injury, occasionally caused by electrocution. I spent 6 weeks in a body cast. Oops.

Freakiest non horsey incident was when I dislocated a finger unicycling.
