Freak injuries

I must be wierd, but would quite like to see piccies of some of these!!

Really? Ok, here's another injury I got from NOT falling off

Mounting from the ground. Propelled myself freakishly right over the top of the poor welsh d I was riding. Landed right on my shoulder. Heard the crack. Knew I was b*ggered. Leading a horse two miles withe broken shoulder is fun! ;)

30 plus years ago fell off a 11 hand pony doing bending race. The pony trod on my arm breaking the ulna. Fast forward 24 years started having problems with same arm - on 1st July due to have an op to tighten the wrist joint as the ulna rotated where it was broken due to the hospital stopping the plaster below the break rather than above it.

I dislocated something in the bottom of my back when my cheeky cob, stopped spun and left me flat on my back... I did get back on as just thought bruised and never went A+E popped its self back into place that night :p and i wacked myself in the eye with the handle of a fork whilst mucking out :o needless to say i have no idea of how i managed to do it!

Smashed my OH in the eyeball whilst sweeping, stupid bugger walked up behind me in mid sweep and the handle just smacked him straight in the face. Sorry to say I did laugh, he shouted very loudly, threw his flatcap on the floor and stormed off into the tackroom. HA. *smirk*, I did feel bad after I'd stopped laughing though. :D

Un-horsey one- Sliced open my leg falling in a pond in Hyde Park in LDN (har har) I managed to kick a swan and lose my shoe. Note, walking on algae covered pond edges is not a good idea. I bet loads of people laughed, I then had to go and dry myself under a hand-dryer in a public toilet :D:D THE SHAMEEE.

I got bitten twice in the space of a second by a horse when I was trying to leave the stable and he wouldn't move over. He got me on the hip bone and the wrist, drawing blood. I was wearing a new watch that I had been given by my parents for my birthday. When I looked at my wrist, it had gone! I then had to take him out of the stable and spent nearly an hour going through the bedding looking for it - I found it in the end, with it's strap torn. I thought for a while he might have swallowed it. You should have heard me swearing at him!

Got headbutted• By a friends horse square onthe head. Had concussoin next few days after that. That was painfull but *touch wood* had nothing worse. Fell of on other sidw of jump before thought I broke me arm but jus sprained it.

Trying to undo a tight girth in the piddling rain...hand slipped off the strap as I was pulling up, thumped my nose, blood everywhere

I got booted in the nethers by a very moody bitch of mare ...instant massive purple bruise right at the top of my thigh/groin.....there I was, in the middle of the top field, keks down inspecting my region....I was so mad I was running round the field flinging a headcollar at her ( missed every time...wasnt in the netball team) whilst on the phone to OH shouting ''thats its...the little ****er has to go...she's booted me in the minge!!!''

this has actually made me cry with laughter, i can just imagine it. 10/10 for use of the word 'minge' too, obv...

Leading pony across the yard one day when another horse was being shod outside the stable block. Other horse stepped back into the mobile metal stacking trays of nails, etc that farriers use and got her foot caught in it...started kicking out frantically, thrashing the thing about...the noise was horrendous and nails and metal tools going everywhere. My pony went 0-60mph in a mad panic...I was thrown off my feet before I could let go of the rope and ended up surfing horizontally along the concrete only for a few seconds before we parted company and thank god I had layers of clothes on but huge metal buckle was ripped off my leather belt on my jeans and the jeans themselves and my outdoor coat looked like they'd been exfoliated afterwards :D Much thinner material than before! Had a sore knee for a few days. A week later my broom had fallen down outside my open stable door and one end of the handle was stuck under the door...I didn't see it somehow and on walking into the stable, got my foot stuck under broom handle and flew gracefully horizontally again...this time onto nice rubber matting in the stable so just felt a prat rather than injured!

Most stupid one I did was punching myself in the eye.

I was hanging a very very heavy soaked haynet for mother's horse (so heavy I couldn't lift it and I'm pretty strong!) and the only way I could get it off the ground was to lean back on the string with my full weight (only 10 stone or so then!).

I just about managed to get it high enough to tie and had my hands in front of my face when the string broke causing my hand to fly back and punch my square in the eye.

No sympathy from mother either - she just shouted at me for making her late!!

getting two horses in from field another one ran up behind and then head butted me out the way and ran straight over me i had a head collar buckle imprint into my face a huge black eye and a swollen ankle

Someone I knew years ago had their nipple bitten completely off, through winter clothing too. They couldn't find the nipple to stitch it back on either!!

Earlier this year I opened Blue's stable door and started leading him out. He'd been in for 2 weeks (don't ask!) and was a bit fresh. I slipped on some ice just outside the door, Blue carried on going and trampled me. I was just pulling myself up against the fence when he went past me at speed in the small turnout area and bucked. Just managed to pull my head back and he made contact with my shoulder. Injuries were some impressive bruising on my left leg, hugely swollen foot (still swollen 4 months on), numbness to ankle and left me on crutches for a couple of weeks. Shoulder very bruised and sore.

A few weeks ago I tripped over fresh air in the field and fell face down in a patch of nettles while wearing a vest top.........I have never known pain like it.

My family call me 'clumsy chuff' for a good reason!

I had a very near death the other day

I genuinely thought I was a gonner, and you would all be reading my article in H&H this week, funny what goes through your head!

Coming into jump, canter was nice enough, stride was there, horse locked on etc and he'd been jumping really nicely.

Len went to lift off, decided against and absolutely slammed on the breaks and span 180 before trying to p1ss off in the other direction. I carried on going and as I fell, got the reins wrapped around my head like a noose! I thought I was going to be hanged by my horse as he ran off at warp speed in the other direction.

Luckily my instincts took over and I managed to hold onto the reins and hauled him to a stop before he got himself in a tizz so I could dis-entwine myself.

Scary stuff.

Oof, I just realised how that sounded! I didn't envision my article in H&H because I'm remotely special, or anybody would care if I were a gonner, so much as it was a ridiculously freak thing to happen, which I'm pretty sure I couldn't have done if I tried. Might have made an interesting read :p

Love it!! :D:D

I degloved my forearm to my elbow on a manege fence. getting dragged along it by a pissing off pony.

I've got pics if anyone wants to see them lol!

Yep I do!! not ashamed to admit it lol! :)

I was leaning over my Clyde couple of weeks ago to straighten her forelock whilst she was eating her tea, when something spooked her outside causing her to fling her head up in the air, catching me under the chin and chucking me about 10 foot across the yard ... my ears are still ringing a bit!!

xx

omg i would cry + cry + cry the pain!!!:eek::eek:

i got booted in the vagine by my horse when he was a youngster WITH shoes on. i felt so sick:( and i could of beat the bugger but alas he looked terrified. my poor flower got the full force:( took me ages to sum up the courage to pick his back feet out, i was petrified. now i go in for a lovely bum hug. i do love the big nut:D

I have punched myself in the face a few times when doing up the girth and it slipped. Have also stabbed myself in the foot a couple of times with the fork when mucking out.

where to start?

I dislocated my shoulder out backwards after friend threw me during judo and missed the crash mat

I broke my foot when supervising a brownie pack and jumped down from sitting on a table!

I got a chunk taken out my arm whilst leading a RDA pony

dented shins on a wheelbarrow after forgetting it was in the doorway still!

Hit my head and split it open on the dangerous drugs cabinet at work.

very bad brusing on chest and shin from a college horse that reared up knocked me backwards then landed on me. A tutor that saw it stopped to catch one horse, then left me to put them in the field and walk back down the drive to get help.

slipped and damaged back on college yard after tripping on wet tiles.

damaged back and ended up being straped up for a month when trying a horse and it blew out, resulting in girth check seeming ok but not and saddle slipping when jumping.

broke collar bone and dislocated joint after hunting my friends young horse and NOT falling off! That was hard to explain in hospital! Only noticed as I couldn't lift my ponies haynet the next day!!

smashed collar bone at the moment and concussion after pony tripped out hacking and fell.

Accident prone me? never :D

Just a few weeks back I was cleaning out stud holes at a competition, my hand slipped and I stabbed the metal poky thing right into my forearm! There was a LOT of blood coming out very fast and I knew I'd stabbed a vein, but the lorry park was practically empty and I knew I had to get help before I passed out - cue me running across the field like a mad thing clutching my arm and pouring blood everywhere. I got an infection in the vein, had a skin reaction to my antibiotics, and couldn't bear weight with my arm for 2 weeks because I'd also stabbed into one of my flexor muscles. I never knew cleaning stud holes was so dangerous :D

Sliced my little finger through to the tendons with the butter knife that was holding the haylage wrapping in place ...

Climbing under a mains powered electric fence and brushed it with my back and the next moment was flat on my face in the grass - very undignified.

For the bad dog (Spaniel puppy) who wasn't supposed to be in the horse paddock, managed to step on the electric fence wire I was reeling in - it was still on - he got one hell of a fright and shot off for the gate to the yard, yelping. Never went back in the horse paddock again.

Got a few... none of them happened to me though : D

My friend was at a show with her pony, they went over the first part of the double, she fell off, and when she landed on the floor he took off over the other jump and smacked her in the face with his hoof (complete with shoe) >.< Her mum went into the ring as she was sat there clutching her face... and her mum told her to get up and get back on the pony, to which my friend let go of her face and blood started pouring from it :S her mum started screaming for an ambulance :L

Same friend was riding a newly broken (and bolshy) horse when it bucked her off and she landed against a tree breaking her collar bone >.<

My mum fell off a ramp once, but her foot sort of hooked against the side so she got a sprained ankle >.<

At a show once when a woman came up to us clutching her hand and asked if we could plait her horse, as she had got her finger caught in her ramp and nearly sliced her finger off D:

I lie, Ive been bitten on the chest once leaving a magnificent bruise ^_^
I've been bitten on the boob aswell - not a pleasant experience!!!

I nearly knocked my front teeth off whilst getting off once

I had my body protector on and got in caught on the saddle it came up and hit me in the chin so hard my teeth came loose

I've had issues with fencing, my first pony chucked me off onto barbed wire which shredded my back and face so I needed stitches (and still have the scars). I also slid off when galloping downhill bareback (as you do as a kid), landing right on a fence post - the size of the bruise on the back of my leg was immense! My other vivid memory was horse related but not a real horse - I was messing round with my brother as a young kid, I was on all 4's pretending to be a horse while he rode me about, his weight made me give way and land heavily on my chin, splitting it open (needed stitches and I still have the scar) and also smashing several of my teeth - I remember spitting bit of teeth out, that was horrible and I still have nighmares where I'm crunching my own teeth!

Didnt happen to me, but I was first on the scene of a kid at Pony Club Camp many years ago - he was mucking out and put the fork straight through the side of his foot. That was pretty horrid and imagine the filth!

Ah, I've also been shoved into a gate by my horse, and the placement of the gate bolt left me with a lovely bruise on my lady bits :(

O M G ..... :( I just got dislocated and broken fingers when this happended to me, as well as being pulled out of the saddle (my hand had got trapped behind "M" on the fence), as I hit the deck, realised my foot was stuck in my "safety"stirrups - so got dragged up the school.... My first ever lesson on my newly purchased horse, my instructor was horrified.....

Your injury makes mine seem like a scratch, how horrific for you :(

i got my fingers stuck in the lunge line my boy took of pulled my fingers to gether and that broke one finger and dis lodged the other that hurt!

Similar to you, my mare took off, I went airborne - literally. All happened so fast, landed on my face - broke my specs which cut my face. OUCH :(

So now I NEVER lunge without wearing a hat, painful (and expensive) lesson learned.....
