Fred made the journey from Shropshire to Somerset today and I am now officially a horse owner!!
He had been turned out for a month to let him down from race feed etc. but loaded into the trailer (his first time in a trailer rather than a box I believe!) ok and we set off at 7am. Got to the new yard at about 1130 and unloaded him.....the first thing he did in his nice big new stable was roll and wee! All good!
Was a bit dubious about the long walk past the other horses up to his paddock but he led very well, and had a little trot about before settling down to munch grass.
Had a few issues with diggers next to the yard, very scary, and he spent half an hour calling to his new fence mate after we brought him back in this evening but all in all he has settled much better than I expected.
Big changes for the boy. First things first....getting his feet done as they seem to have been just left when he was turned out prior to me getting him. Lots of cracks and a few chunks missing, front shoes very overdue. Still; no major dramas and the yard has a few good farriers so a small price to pay. Any recommendations for cracked hooves?
Here are some photo's, he's looking abit scruffy and sweaty. Didn't want to stress him out anymore by grooming/bathing/faffing after such a long journey.
Thankyou all for you help and advice over the past month, it's kept me sane whilst waiting for him!
