I was talking to a friend this morning and she was telling me about an apparent FREE dressage school master being advertised on twitter? Has anyone else heard about this?
According to my friend (as I don't actually have twitter) there's nothing wrong with him apart from having had his knee joints flushed following infection quite a while ago but is sound now. Again, according to friend, he was at risk of being PTS as owner no longer wants him so they were seeking a new home for him. Its all a bit Chinese whispers and I may have grasped total wrong end of the stick.. Just sounds too good to be true?
Either way I hope he finds a lovely new home.

It was true and looks like said horse has now found a home. He looked lovely and was snapped up quickly. Had knee joints flushed but was thought he would be alright at a much lower level.

Would flushed knees really effect him to that extent (that he would be free?) an old friend of mine's mare had her knees flushed years ago after infection. She was a SJ and returned to normal work.

Ah bless him, I'd love something like that. Only ever have the money for youngsters to bring on, so something ready made like that would be wonderful. I have no aspirations to compete at high levels, but do like to get out there. Shame he's already gone - I'd snap him up

Well you can see If you think it though if you have one horse on a expensive ( I don't know the yard )yard and you only have time for one then when the one you have is not going to go on you could say right let's find him a great home where they will appreciate him and I' ll just go and buy another.
I hope he's found a great place where they think he's the best thing since sliced bread and he he has a lovely time making someone happy.

There's a 19 year old 16.2 warmblood offered free to a good home, in the group "Horses, Rugs and Tack for sale in Carmarthen" on Facebook.

Well schooled, dressage potential although it says he hasn't been ridden regularly for a while.

(It's not my horse BTW!)

This sort of thing happens all the time over here, it seems that the sort of people that can afford to spend 10's even 100's of thousands on a horse are not too fussed about getting any money back when the horse can't do the job anymore. They give away free as a hack or for light schooling and 'small' jumps (80/90cm, which to me is big enough!) and buy themselves a new model. My friend has an ex international showjumper that was once sold for €100k, which she got for free when he retired  (she used to ride for the owner), absolutely nothing wrong with the horse.

there was a 16yr pre advertised free on preloved the other day as owner 'couldn't afford him', I think another poster posted about it on this forum

I saw ali dane advertise him on twitter - looked lovely but the fact he was free made me question if it was 100% genuine. Also, I find people jump at the chance of getting a free horse.. Its a shame because he may end up with someone who knows nothing, or can't afford him etc so he'll end up getting sold on and on. Sorry just my negative thinking! But did look gorgeous and hope he's gone to a great home :)

Yes and the initial cost of the horse is usually the least expense too!!
