Hello!

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what they pay a freelance groom for a days work (8am-5/6pm), or the average hourly rate of pay?

Thanks

National minimum wage applies whether freelance or not. So £6.70 if over 21, £5.30 if 18 to 20 etc. The groom would have to account for tax and NI - if they earn enough to meet the threshold. It is very rare that grooms get more than NMW I'm afraid. No paid meal breaks either!

In my area (Surrey) it's £8-10 an hour, more if only a couple of hours work. I've never met a freelance groom working for min wage!

As a freelance it wouldn't be worthwhile working for less that £10 per hour due to the travelling time/costs. I do 1 yard freelance and its very local and charge £10p/h.

The only one I know charges £12 an hour I don't think she struggles to find work and I'm not in an expensive area.

We pay ours £10 for an hours work - she gets a £5 extra for another livery on 3 days too.
If you are paying for the whole day though I should think NMW would be correct.
