For the last week or so my suger beet has been frozen or icy when I have come to feed it (never frozen solid, just the excess water). Would you risk feeding it like this? What do you do to prevent it freezing?

Don't feed it anymore but we used to put the bucket inside a bigger bucket, with a layer of straw in the gap between the big and little bucket.

i wrap the bucket in a rug and then put bigger bucket over it. either that or just do a batch for the day. If mine is frozen i pour hot water over it. i wouldn't feed it frozen tho'. can't imagine it would be very nice on a cold day.

I wouldn't risk feeding it personally, but one way to stop it from freezing is to make it up in a coolbox

I use speedibeet, and take it home at night, then use hot tap water to fill the bucket up. It soaks while I drive to the yard in the morning, and do their hay.
It doesn't spill either, as it soaks so quickly.

Why not feed it very cold? I do, sometimes with small chunks of ice in it! Horses quite like munching ice sugar beet. I do keep mine in an old freezer (obviously not on...) though which helps a bit.

My horse wont eat his Speedibeet unless its hot! He gets his full ration for freshly prepared for supper and just gets Alfa Oil and hay for breakfast :-)
