frontline flea treatments -wtf?

Im slightly more confused about frontline now. Popped into the vet to get more as Sandy has fleas again despite being done three weeks ago. The vet said frontline should be done on dogs every 2 months but said theyve had loads of complaints about it and most people were saying they were doing their dogs every 2 - 3 weeks. She then sold me stronghold despite saying last time I asked for it that it no longer did fleas, insisting this time that it does  Took her word for it - hopefully will be the last time we need some. Both dogs are on garlic tablets and some Billy No Mates is on order :)

I have not used Frontline for several years, this is because one JR is hyper allergic to it and has Gand Mal fits if he comes into contact with it even if it is on another dog.

What I have found very effective is Neem Oil.

I mix 5 mls of Neem with 3 ml of shampoo and a litre of warm water and wash the dogs all over with it. There have been no fleas and the only ticks they have had have been on their faces where I did not wash them.

It is brilliant stuff and I have bought the largest bottle I could find because I use it for gardening, the same mix keeps slugs and snails away and the Cabbage Whites away from the greens.

I also used it for dunking the hens and spraying the houses after a red mite infestation.

It also alleviated itching and takes the sting out of any insect bite.

It is all natural and has no adverse effete. The only problem is that the pure oil smalls terrible!
thanks for the tip..havent heard of neem oil..where can i get it from
yep ive got chooks and grow veg so handy to know

nope never used fles treatment with the dogs.. have whippets so very short fine coats, just add garlic or avc in water at times

Right let's simplify this:

If you are finding frontline doesn't work for the fleas your pet has then pop them into the vet to get advocate which is prescription only.

If fluffy won't can't bites your hand off trying to get them to the vet you could try the frontline OR IF YOU WANT A CHEAPER OPTION with exactly the same properties as frontline go for EFFIPRO

I get Frontline regularly & with my lot it costs £94 a go, however I have finally decided to give up as it just doesn't work even when used in conjunction with RIP Flea indoors.

My elderly cat just had a visit to the vets 2 weeks after being Frontlined and when I went to collect him the vet said he had a huge flea burden. They sprayed him and he seemed flea free when he got home but 2 weeks later he is leaving flea eggs wherever he sleeps.

I haven't read all the replies but I will do so and maybe pick up an alternative that works if such a thing exists

Frontline: does it no longer work? I used it when we got the original pups, going back 8 years, they were riddled with fleas, yuk. This cleared them within 24 hours. I've not needed to de-flea since the last cat was PTS.

Neem oil, all safe for animals? I'd love to get rid of the slugs/snails: I hear lungworm is on the rise and the pups are fond of snails!

Neem oil is amazing stuff, it has fantastic healing properties as well as repelling near enough all bugs inc flies! I use it on dogs, cats, horses, even the chickens! you can spray it on plants too to ward off slugs snails etc, I applied it to my sweet itch pony and he stopped scratching imediatly, and hasnt rubbed since! highly recommend it!

Edit: p.s it isnt all that nice to smell but I guess it wouldnt work so well if it did!

Am a veterinary nurse and have been for like ever,,, am now 35, all my dogs over the years never get flea prepped, as don't ever seem to get them, yet i must bring em home as sometimes we have animals in who are infested.. i certainly wouldnt do frontline etc etc for the sake of it! It does work I can assure you! xx
