Are they safe to feed? I buy 10kg sacks and normally give him a couple in his feed and 3 or 4 thrown on the ground as I leave. Of course they are totally frozen now as although feed room is in a barn it is still pretty closed. I gave him 2 tonight as worried about them being so cold.

I will say yes. I know I'm not a horse but I munch ice cubes all the time and I haven't had any ill effects. Also, when its snowy and they graze I'm sure they are eating bits of snow. Mine have been out in the field today during the snow, I presume they were also grazing.

I keep carrots in a freezer box to stop them freezing. Works for sugarbeet and the like as well. I wouldn't feed them frozen.

our carrots are stored in a bucket with water, they don't seem to be affected with them ever.

My dog gets frozen carrots but can’t say ive ever given one to a horse. After a fractured tooth (although as far as I’m aware not caused by chomping down on anything) I’m a bit anal about her snapping another so personally wouldn’t.

my frozen carrots aren't frozen solid at all, i cut them up and they are just frosty on the outside but same texture as normal in the middle :)

Jacob has been eating them for the last week with no ill effect, they are frozen on the outside but still snap like normal carrots would - although I am in the comparatively balmy South East, so may be different if you're up north

I put them in the feeds whole, with the logic that they will thaw them out as they snuffle round them (my cob leaves them until last). I'm trying to use them up before they thaw, as they'll be slimy and disgusting then.

If they are only frozen on the outside and you can cut them then I wouldn't worry, but if they're solid I think it would risk choke or cracked teeth.

I brought mine in to my utility yesterday. I was worried they might choke on frozen ones and decided better safe than sorry. I have no evidence that that would be a concern though.

Im taking hot water to the yard to soak their fast fibre so I drop them into the warm mash, theyre not frozen all the way through so they soon soften up in the goo
