My 10yo 15.2 kwpn mare, being the pain in the rear end that she is, has deicded to produce a folicle which is 45mm with lots of oedema, has had her injection to make her ovulate, so looks certain to ovulate tomorrow. Unfortunately, this does not give us time to get chilled semen from the stallion we want to use... due to bank holiday... typical!
So, i have taken the gamble to inseminate her using frozen semen from home...
I would take her to our local vets hospital so she can have regular scans which are so vital for frozen semen insemination, but she is totally obsessed with her 4 week old baby, so moving her is not an option as she would go mad and risk hurting herself or him, or loosing feotus in the stress once all the hard work has been done.
Has anyone else had good experiences from inseminating at home? Our vets are being quite doubtful it will work as she will not be under constant watch and scans.
We covered her naturally last year with no drugs or scans, just by seeing if she was in season and accepted the stallion. she was then scanned when she didnt come back into season and had twins, i had one pinched and have ended up with a CRACKING colt this year, so i know she is easy to get into foal (despite only having one ovary)
Any advice or stories of your own much apprechiated.
Thanks, and please send us positive thoughts and cross fingers
