Just wondering how do you guys go about doing your horses on a daily basis? Esp if you have an hr plus commute either side of the day?

I get to the yard at 7.
Give both breakfast (and the hores stable either side)
Rug up
Put Baileys bed up
Turn Meg out first then Bailey
Make up Baileys feeds and haynets
Go to work at 8.40am

I am lucky as the yard muck out Megan.

When I get down after work I bring Baileys bed down, groom, exercise, rug up and put to bed.

Normally home at about 7.30/ 8ish.

Well I have to set off for work an hour before I start to make sure I get there in case of traffic etc!! So at the moment, I drive to the yard, feed, turnout, get changed and drive into centre of village to catch the bus. Then normally get to the yard about 45mins-1hr after finished work, and ride, muck out feed and hayledge. I'm very lucky in that a friend very kindly brings horsey in at night if I'm finishing work late, so dont have to worry bout him being out on his own!

7 am feed 4, change 3 sets of rugs, turnout, muck Donkey out. home for 8.15 shower etc into the office for around 9.15

pm - Change at the office!! Donkey is normally already in, ride/lunge etc most nights and home for 7.30ish!!

I don't do mine in the morning - my lovely sister does, I start work at 7 leave at 3.30 and I am sat on the horse by 4.30 and usually home by 6ish

Get up 5:40, feed, turn out, muck out, waters, fill haynets, in for shower, leave for work 07:00, work 08:00 - 17:00, home 17:45, catch, groom, bed down, ride, feed.

Easier now they are at home but prior to that exactly the same but getting up at 5:10 as 25 mins drive to yard in between

Alarm goes off at 5.55, 6.00, 6.05, 6.10 = Get up!

Stables at house so feed, muck out & chuck out ponies, in for 7.10, shower & get ready, leave house 8.20 in work for 8.30.

Home at lunch check on boys. Finish work at 5.30 Home bring boys in finish off in winter.

Mum rides Mon,thur Fri unless we are taking them some where & I ride at weekends

In summer they live out & I ride after work. I miss summer

Work 12hr Shifts (6 till 6), with a 40mins commute each way. Pay for full livery when I'm on day shifts (but still pop into yard on way home to poo pick paddock, during the summer months). When on night I do horse before I go home to bed in the morning and get someone to bring her in for me P.M.

I don't have to do them in the mornings! But this does mean i'll finish work at 5pm get to yard for 6pm muckout, bring in, feed, ride etc and usually home by about 9.30pm

so late! Constantly tired and have no life cos all i do when i get in is have my dinner, a shower and go to bed!

Can't wait for when the clocks change cos if its warm enough they'll all be chucked out 24/7 again!

Have three, we all chip in to help when we have time so often other liveries will put mine out or muck out for me, swung the other way this week as I have 4 to do every day.

I feed and turn out in the morning, usually muck out in the afternoon at 4.30, and bring in. don't have time or daylight in the week to ride or lunge during winter.

Can't do any more in the mornings as I have to make sure son is up in time for the school bus, and there is a limit to how early I am prepared to get him out of bed.

Currently up at 5.45 - feed 3 muck out turn out and home 6.30 shower etc work for 8 finish at 4 stables before 5 home by 7. However I have a great job as i have flexibility just wondering how I would work it if I was to get a job with hr plus commute each way.

Luckily the boy gets turned out for me AM during the week, as i live on the other side of town from the yard. ( i do pay for this as an extra )

Work 9 - 5.30, but often have to work late, so don't usually get to the yard until anywhere between 6 -7pm. Again, luckily he is brought in by his field companion's owner if i am working late.

Then have to muck out, groom, change rugs and feed. I try to ride in the school 3 nights per week (and hack and have lesson at weekends) so if i don't get to the yard too late., I don't get home until 8.30 -9pm!

It hink OH is starting to feel abandoned...I can't wait until they are out 24/7 and can still ride, but get home at a decent hour!!

Up at 5.30 am and have breakfast with OH and then go out at 6am (short walk down the road) and turn him out, muck out (no elec so use a head torch and camping lantern!), top up water from water butt and lug hay back to house for soaking.
Then in the evening I just have to soak his hay and drive it round, put him in, change rugs, give him some chaff and carrots and that is usually at 7pm...so in the dark again!

Mine is fed in the moring and turned out for me then i work an hr rom home so at yard for about 6.15 every nite- ride, muck out, do feeds and hya and feed. it wokrs well as i dont feel guilty not being there during the day as he is gettign out and rugs cahnged and all for me. I think i am jsut very lucky as it is DIY livery but she is jsut very very good! Organises my farrier, vets, lessons and all for me! brillaint!

mine are out at night, in during the day, get up at 7am, shower, make lunch, yard at 8.30, catch in , change rugs, groom, excercise one, feed. get back to yard 6.30pm, change rugs, turnout, muck out, home 8pm, cook, eat go to bed

Part Livery Monday to Friday is my only option.

I work in Central London which is dire. I am up every morning at 6.30 and at the station by 7.20….because of the traffic where I live it can take me up to 20 mins to go 2 miles. I then work 8.30 till 5.30. I get the train at 6 – as I never manage to get the one before – and I am back by 6.45 (It should take 25 mins but never does) I get to the yard by 7.10 and ride – I am usually all done by 8.00. I do this twice a week.

He gets schooled once a week, and lunged once by my instructor.

It is a vicious circle – I couldn’t afford him and my mortgage if I didn’t work in town, but because I do I don’t get the time to see him and feel like a bad mother. I live for my weekends when I get to see him in daylight!

If anyone has any other ideas on how to manage my day I would be eternally grateful (apart from moving away from the UK….)

Leave at 8am for work
Return at 7.30-8pm

Get up at 7am put both horses out - am VERY lucky that my mum mucks them out for me at 9am every morning tehy are on rubber so only takes 20mins to do both!

Then I go to work at 8.30 get home at 5.30 get changed and go to yard ride both horses - every weds I have jump lessons and then I feed them and go home usually in by 8pm.

Im fine if im in bed by 10pm! any later and im too tired!!

with lots of hard work! Ive got two aswell so even harder!

I get up at 5:45 am every morning, get to the yard by 6:15am. Normally one stays in and one goes out in the field. So i muck one out, do waters/hay, then take one up to the field.

I then go home (around 7:15) get ready for work, walk to work (half an hours walk) work from 9-4 with no break so i can go early. Mum picks me up, we dash home, get changed, drive down the yard. I ride both horses, mum mucks out (if she didnt id be there unil around 9pm every night). I feed/but to bed. Get home around 7pm, have a bath/shower, eat tea. Do some work on my open university course and go to bed!!!!

I'm quite lucky in that i work from home. I still have to do a 40 hour week though. I am allowed to work flexi hours but have to be in the office between 4pm and 5pm as there is no one to cover for me. My general routine is:

7.30am Feed, turnout 3 horses. Put hay out in the field if needed. Do 1 or 2 stables (including hay and water). Sometimes do third horses hay and water. Sometimes prepare evening feeds. I sometimes ride one horse instead of mucking out.

9am Go into work

5pm Finish work. Go straight round to stables. Finish anything that has not been done in the morning. Bring horses in, ride etc, feed.

morning YO feeds and turns out as I leave at 7 or 8am for work anyway and nothing on yard is allowed out till light which in winter is earliest of 7:30 and in summer they out 24/7 any way.

Finish work at 5 or 6 (depending on start time) and get to yard approx 1 hour later. When at yard muck out 2 and ride at least one feed etc etc and get home about 9pm. YO currently brings in as well as they have to be in before dark at the moment to stop them trashing the fields.

So yes I don't TO but I do everything else which basically means no social life during the week!!

Mine are are home, and in the winter I have a lot of help from my parents. I get up about 30 mins earlier than I would if I didn't have a horse and the evenings are no problem as I can take as long as I need as I am at home anyway. I do feel like I don't see them much in the winter though as I get up in the dark, come home in the dark, and cannot ride until the weekend as I have no facilities. Having said that though, being at home is cheap!

I am lucky that mine lives out in the field on the farm where I live so can do grooming feeding etc in the morning. How does everyone manage to ride in the evenings in winter, do you ride in a school?
