One of the other horse owners charges me £20 a day per horse "full" livery. What would you expect for this? I have 2 horses and use her at least 5 days a week.
Wow I feel totally spoiled my yo charges £10 per day full livery, muck out, feed, hay, turn out bring in. And wee have a wee helper who for a fiver will muck out and turn out put in hay and water so stable all ready for me bringing in x

That's lovely, I've never been charged this amount for what I'm getting either TBH. The fact I have one very quirky/walking vet bill makes moving extremely hard as he's got so many requirements to keep him well. My other is pretty healthy and easy going.

What is this obsession with 24hour turnout . I would move to another yard asap ensure it had daily turnout all year , but summer or not 24 hour turnout is not essential particularly as the price you pay op you can afford full livery .

I was forced to move livery yard recently due to yard closure , I thought I would never be able to replace what I had at my current yard , but I can honestly say my new yard is better.
Also a sharer usually pays you or works for rides not you pay her .

So I've been offered an amazing value livery

"Hello diy is £45-£55 depending on size of ponies(morning feeds included) a week
part livery is £80 a week
full livery is £130 a week
All include adlib haylage

Part livery is 4-5 days a week
Mucked out in morning or night,
Turn out in the paddock in winter and summer in the field,
Morning feeds and evening feed on them 4-5 days. And they will get a groom and there feet picked out daily

Full livery included 7 days a week morning and evening muckouts, turn out in the paddock in winter and field in summer, they will get a groom and feet picked out daily 1 bag of shavings/straw a week"

The field is Summer is actually a turnout out grass pen, not even half an acre for 2 horses! This is exactly why I'm finding moving impossible. Currently I get the use of about 4 acres 8/9 months a year, rough natural grazing on a slope, natural shelter, lots of edible trees/weeds. Then the other 3/4 months I get the use a huge turnout barn for up to 24 hours every 3/4 days (converted cattle sheds) turnout in school and miles of country lanes to in hand walk and graze.

My boys are good doers and lost weight over summer last year (we moved on a year ago). My boy with multiple allergies including pollen/hay-fever had no issues and is a year steroid/antihistamine free.

The 'obsession' is that it is much, much better for the horse (with all the usual caveats of needing suitable land, adequate forage, shelter and friends)

I personally think in the summer out all night and in all day is the ideal , not sure horses standing out being miserable as being mollested by horse flys all day is much better for the horse. Agree turnout is a must but not sure 24 hour needs to be obsessed over.

My point in this case is though that the op would be far better moving to a yard that actually looked after her horses adequately without ripping her off , and settling for day time turn out only .

I want to say, my horses, my money, my choice and not give a hoot about the repercussions but that's impossible as it really won't be a comfortable environment for me and whilst I am looking for a good yard I have to stick it out.

Reading this, that’s exactly what I was going to comment to say. I might sound a bit harsh but they’re your horses and it’s your money. This person isn’t your keeper so why are you letting them treat you this way. Stand up for yourself. I don’t know how to say this in a kinder way other than you need to get a grip… Sorry.

We don’t get horseflies here. My horses are never ‘standing out being miserable', they are happy, healthy horses who massively benefit from having more freedom. Them being in all day would not by the ideal

I get what you mean, don’t worry.
I’ve had plenty of horses that love to come in for a snooze to get out of heat and flies in the summer.

Choosing livery always comes with compromises, so for me, for working horses, 24/7 turnout is not essential- I’m more than happy with overnight turnout.

Mine previous and current pretty sensitive to other flies not just horseflies, they come to the gate in the morning, when there's been a shelter, stayed in there rather than out in the sun. My previous horse was retired and out but on hot days if you opened the gate, he would come up the track from the fields and put himself in a stable.

I wouldn't be happy with the OP s winter turnout

Then the other 3/4 months I get the use a huge turnout barn for up to 24 hours every 3/4 days (converted cattle sheds) turnout in school

I would compromise over the 24hr in summer for more space in winter but we all prioritise different things.

There really are only 2 choices here if the OP wants things to change. Move and compromise over requirements or stand up to the bully. I know it's not easy but as I said before, if she goes mental and you back down, there is no reason to change when this behaviour is working nicely for her.

Well yeah she said my sharer can't be left to do jobs alone as she's only 15 but the YO and sharers mother have given it the go ahead. She then keeps telling me the sharer situation isn't working for me but has suddenly taken the sharer under her wing?

Yes I think it might be better even if they are further away although I worry if I can't visit at least twice a week and I get to do that now with the current location.

The days I go I do everything to a high standard and spend most of the day there. I've been too unwell to go for months at one point a few years ago and they weren't looked after as well as I hoped (this was on full livery but yard has since closed down to be built on)
It seems to.me that you need to stand up.to this woman and stop letting her walk all over you. If you are happy that she sharer is competent, tell the woman to.mind her own business!

I'd probably do a white lie to this person.

I'd contact her by text, email or whatsapp so i had a record of everything.

It would go something along the lines of this.....

Dear ( NAME)

As you are aware my child and I both have disabilities.
On going management of the horses is becoming both physically and financially difficult.
I have therefore been looking into some of the available funding to help my family and I.
My assistance needs in relation to the horses are changing and I have recognised that I will require a more permenat solution for weekdays to cover the horses daily care.

From (DATE) I will be requiring ( INSERT TYPE OF HELP ie. am and pm assistance - no details here yet!)

In order to apply for any available funding I have been asked to gather quotes for this assistance
from at least 3 private grooms.

As you have known the horses and cared for them previously I would obviously like you to provide me with a quote.
The quote must include a full breakdown of all the tasks to be undertaken and the frequency of these tasks ie. daily, weekly etc.
The quote must also include your company name, insurance details and VAT number.

I am planning on contacting 2 other private groom to also give quotes.
The funding body will then choose the best value for money quote.

Please would you send me details via email so that I may forward them on.
Many thanks,
(Your name)

She will either not be paying tax and not want to be involved or be really greedy with the amount but that dosen't matter as you will have a better quote no matter what ;)

Just decide what you want to do and do it.
Instead of feeling sorry for yourself tell her face to face the mucking out etc needs to be better.
The fee £20 per horse is imo fine. But things in an ideal world need to be done properly, however the world is not ideal and sometimes paying for something to be done not how you like it is the something that has to managed carefully to keep the show on the road .
I am not sure why you keep her on find someone else but last minute is very hard to manage with freelancers so that’s something you have to consider .
