Does your horse have any funny habits?
for example my horse will pick his front leg up whilst eating his feed (whether stabled, in the field or tied up on the yard) and he waves them around before picking up the other front leg and waving that around to!! it makes me laugh when i stand there and watch him!!

Mine throws her headcollar into the yard (violently) when she thinks I'm being too slow to turn her out. She also throws her turnout rug around the stable if I keep her waiting

One of mine waves her front feet when eating, she alternates between left and right. My other mare does this:

LizzieJ that's awesome i've never ever seen a horse do that!!
grin.gif
i can't even do that (my friends laugh at my attempts to try!!) lol
grin.gif

I keep some rugs over the stable door and at the weekends when Suni's not turned out at half 6 she has a strop and throws the rugs on the floor.
When i'm making her breakfast/tea she headbutts her haynets until i give her food to her.

where do I start?!

Throws rugs off the door onto the floor then stands on them
Loves to drink ice cold water but only out the red bucket, not the yellow one
Will drink every bucket of water you give to him even if he has a full one already in his stable but only if (see above) it is COLD and in the RED bucket
Won't eat polos
Can't eat a full carrot or apple, has to eat it in about 10 pieces
Scratches its ears with its back legs
Stands like a duck
Licks off any hoof oil/cream/lotion/shampoo you put on it
Can get most of its front hoof in its mouth (as above) to suck off hoof oil
Will pretend to sweep with yard brush then throw it at you whilst you're ignoring him
Loves to watch and investigate things other horses wouldn't go near such as an upright fridge freezer wrapped in plastic or a combine harvester

Fab piccie

my boy is very good at saying thankyou after a treat but curling up his top lip like a stallion,

He crosses his back legs a lot- looks daft

he can't be bothered to always roll himself all the way over so spins round on his bum

he won't touch a salt lick but likes to lick soil, the gas tank our new trailer etc!

Ellie likes to go along on a hack with her top lip curled up - when I ride out with people, they always laugh as they say she looks like she's smiling!

One of my PC instructors once told me that curling their lip was a sign of stress, and that I should be careful that she isnt unhappy

my horse also lifts his leg to eat, but i see it as a "ohh this is REALLY good"
tongue.gif

he has to stretch his jaw when i put the bridle on, and have to wait for AGES till i can fasten his noseband
tongue.gif

He is neurotic with other horses; in the summer he goes out in a field with other horses (all sectioned into little paddocks) and cannot be out on his own in that field.
there is a field ajoining my stables that he will go out in on his own - very happily. dosent gallop/stress about being on his own in his "own" field
tongue.gif
but will do when in the other field?!?

he will also not eat polos at a show
confused.gif
but eats them at home?!?

oh, and he rolls, and when he gets back up he sits for a while

He is the only horse to make me laugh every day. I discovered this when he bit through the lid of the hood gel, I took it off him, turned round and he had the hoof gel brush, removed that from its mouth to find his hoof in his mouth instead

bless, mine is the same. Adrenalin = no polos. But with her it is a good sign because it means she will be 'up for it'. If she will munch polos then I know it will be a pointless day as she has left her brain sleeping in her stable

I just thought Suni also like to lick soil and have a brown tounge. She also gets grass stains on her tounge from walking along licking the ground
crazy.gif

Haha please can you get a picture of the hoof sucking? It sounds hilarious!

Charlie waves his leg around whist he'd eating.
He has to empty half the food on the floor in case there are any good bits at the bottom
And also empty's half his haylage out of the haybar for the same reason as above.

forgot to say as well that my horse always yawns several times when he sees the bridle and i also have to wait for him before i can put it on!!
grin.gif

he is also regularly seen doing the flehmen reaction and is very nosy to the point that when you bring him in from the field he always has a good look around before following!! whenever you brush his front leg or put his boots on he puts his head down to your level and has a good old nosy at you! it's cute really!! lol
laugh.gif

he loves undoing velcro and zips as well!!
grin.gif

apparently the waving a leg thing is due to the horse being anxious that he has to eat whilst remaining still. this is from where they graze in the wild and are constantly on the move whilst eating. not sure if it's 100% true but it does kind of make sense!

my boy does this too, I 'show' him his bridle first and that sets him off yawning and stretching, so then i put his saddle on, then his bridle and put his boots on before doing up his noseband! Drives me mad when I am at a competition and in a hurry and he insists on yawning before he'll let me near his head with the bridle!

My old horse used to do the waveing the leg thing and i did some research into it and found out that it is because when the graze they are constantly on the move so when they eat their feed they waggle their foot as it releases something and makes them feel like they're moving. Don't know if it's right though.

At my yard we have some outside stables the front of them are metal and having round bar things running along them. The bars get hair, dirt and dust on them and Suni stands there licking/sucking them. It's gross!

Magic loves carrots but just will not eat carrot pealings!! He also chews the chest strap of his rug when I put it on him as well as chewing the lead road as I put his head collar on!!

unfortuantely he can't roll his tongue though......thats so funny

Mist will curl her top lift after she's eating anything, could be treats, her feed, carrot etc. Every single time.

As soon as you get her bridle out, and go to put it on her, she suddenly becomes a riding school pony with head on floor and starts yawning!

If im putting a rug on or putting travel boots/bandages/normal boots on, she'll always nose to see what im doing.

Shes awful with the farrier, smelling his bum etc, and she'll rest her chin on his back if she can. He never looks impressed though. :P

Hmm, when she gets turned out, she'll be walking along and without slowing down she gets down and rolls.
When im leading her down to the field, she'll walk along smelling and dragging her nose along the road.

This morning, she'd just finished her brekky which was in a bucket you can hang on the gate, and she decided cuz it was empty, she'd put her head under it and chuck it on the floor.

She also loves my 2 year old cousin, and if he's in the yard, she goes all soppy and will stand over him just sniffing his hair hehe.

Last one! :P When i'm riding her in the school or out in the field, and make her stand still, she'll turn round to face my leg so i can scratch her head

My little pony laughs at everything - if you talk to her she laughs, if you clump her she laughs, if she kicks another horse she laughs, if they kick her she laughs, always giggling, she also gives kisses on command but only if you give her one first she will not give them out if you haven't given her hers first.
