The only real experience I have of gypsies, is of the 'Traveller' type - and TBF, it's not good, and they fulfilled every stereotypical expectation I had :(

However, I now have some dealings with someone else, who is nothing like you would expect, and quite lovely.

Personally, I wouldn't be able to get past my prejudices, but a better person than me (and braver!) might, and only judge as they find.

I like your honesty. :)

Based on the experience I had living for eight years very close to a site, and seeing terrible, terrible cruelty to animals including horses, and YO having to sit with an injured horse while RSPCA/police put it to sleep after they dumped it in the road (other times just the corpse was dumped in the road).......well; I would certainly want to know whether I was dealing with a real Romany with huge pride in his animals, or the type of individual who could inflict the above.

So it would depend, but I would be wondering TBH why they werent employing 'in house' as it were as they dont normally mix if its avoidable.

same here having lived up the road from some "travellers" for the past 10 years and having seen what goes on no bloody way though saying that i do know a couple of old romanys and they couldnt do enough for their horses but they are few and far between i am afraid

No way :(
I have 3 experiences of gypsies:
1. A family who was my landlord 20 odd years ago, last seen teaching their 8 &10 year old sons to casually walk out with full trolly's from Tesco! And they got away with it, 2 trolly's full of meat and drink just prior to xmas.
2. Girl where my sister lives, is the local bike and lives in a cess pitt, self respect long gone :(
3. Worked in a bar 20 years ago, the travellers came in...........justbefore last orders 2 started to fight, whole lot joined in and no exaggeration to say about 20 men and 20 women, men and women seperate of course! The gorlfriends\wives of the men fighting started scrapping and it was the women who were scary :D

I don't care what anyone says, I'd approach any with caution, so definitely wouldn't work for one :(

If you do some research you will find that some of the huge companies in this country were founded by people who were from the travelling communities. You wouldn't know it now as they all live in million pound houses, and you could work for the companies without knowing they were founded by a gypsy.

I'm a strong believer in giving the benefit of the doubt, so by all means approach with your eyes open but I think the trouble starts when people refuse to acknowledge good in the community too.

Yes, have your views and established stereotype interpretations, but also don't solidify them so much to the point that they cannot be broken down. Allow members of their community to prove you wrong by exceeding your expectations or surprising you. It's an opportunity to learn.

Back on topic - As others have said, i'd go along and judge the traveller on an individual basis and make my decision from there. Gut instinct should tell you whether they are of decent moral or otherwise :)

No - I wouldn't work for them or with them because I just don't understand them and I don't think they would understand me.

I think it would lead to such an unhappy existence for both parties that I wouldn't even think of going there.
