Difficult!!!

We are planning to take the boys to the beach mid Sept (Happy Birthday to me!), but thought we'd better practise stopping, steering and for CS, going, first!!!

Lovely farmers have given us kind permission to ride on some nearby stubble fields. So, a short trip into the field across the road, et voila...

Fig is, um, fast. And I may have got a little bit run away with at the end! He was super sensible though, and we had a walk and a trot on a long rein, a sweet canter and then came back round for a gallop. I didn't ask him to go, I just let him, as wasn't sure how he'd react!

Next up, CS!!! Who did a respectable 20 yards of walk before insisting on cantering slowly sideways... But, he did sensibly canter up the long side towards home and then came back round and REALLY shifted. PS quite rightly, leapt off as soon as they were next to the gate!!! But he crossed the road and walked up the drive seemingly, chuffed with himself!

So now.... We want to take them to some gallops! (after all the AF's and ROR etc!) I'm not bothered about not being able to stop if they're in the right situation - we did walk the fields with Team Mascot Phoebe Dog and shifted any huge rocks etc. but if they're on a proper surface on a continuous loop, there's less to worry about.

Still a bit scared for the beach....

I took my dressage girl for a blast yesterday too, also in dressage saddle and also had an amusing time trying to stop!
Need to find some gallops - preferably uphill (!!)

I'm chuckling at your boots AND bandages! Safest gallopers ever!

They look so professional even when having a hooley. Also love the last picture of Fig.... He looks very pleased with himself. CS looks very very well behaved :D

Fig wasn't even puffed in the slightest!!!

I know re: boots, but Fig hates tendon boots and is capable of standing on all parts of his own legs the daft chap. Need to get him some cute teeny sized brushing boots for the beach :)

And HEY, we both put our stirrups up TWO HOLES!!! Lol ;) My ankles are screaming now!

No wonder given the angle your heel is at in the 3rd picture lol!

If you hadn't put bandages on too it would have upset the matchy matchy anyway.....

At least you won't need to cold hose at the beach. The cold salt water will do their legs the world of good.

Assuming the boys like the sea.:D:D Have fun.

They look great, it makes me miss mad gallops on fast TBs, it's an amazing feeling!!

Totally agree with this - speed isn't scary, it's not being able to pull up before hitting something that is!!

Lmao!!! It's impossible to get your knees up in these saddles, I am holding out for a jump saddle though :)

Yes true! Hoping they will do - I'm sure Figs been in the sea before, but only time will tell ;)

looks like so much fun! can I ask what those boots are? they are lovely.

My boots are Konig Favorits, PS' are Petrie Polo boots :)

I know! I was a bit wary of him hurtling round the corner, hitting a rut in the field and me eating dirt at 30mph!!!

The pictures look so sedate until you see the videos! The boys can shift!

And if that is just 'letting' Fig go, I'd love to see the speed he goes when sent off and kicked on! (I would not love to be sitting on it, mind you... ;) )

They really can *move* !!!!

I can't wait to find out!!!!

Must have brought back fond memories for the two of them (I'm assuming they were in training? Racehorsie training I mean).

Yes both were in training, CS until a 4yo and Fig came out of racing as a 7yo. Think they both enjoyed and nice to see how much CS has come on mentally since last year - wouldn't have even been able to get him across the road into the field!

Great pics! So they have went from Race horses, to dressage, to dressage racing! :D

Lol!!! Something like that. I don't mind if they're never 100% reliable, both are sharp in their own ways, but it's nice for them to do something different with no pressure/expectations.

Lol'ing at the boots and bandages but I do believe you are both missing something - where are your breastplates? :p

They looked like they both enjoyed themselves very much :D Billy always finds the beach super exciting at the start but his love is splashing in the sea - he appears to like seeing how wet he can get me without actually dumping me in the water :p
I am sure Fig and CS will love the beach but have you had them in water before? Quite looking forward to those pics ;) :P

I tried to jump and two-point once in my Antares dressage saddle - never again!! I doff my had to you both with knee rolls and dressage boots. My Stubben dressage is OK for jumping/galloping as it's got no knee rolls.

Not as nice as my lovely, lovely, lovely Devoucoux jumping saddle though ... Plus if you get a brown one, then you *have* to buy a whole load more beautiful brown tack to match it ... Just sayin' ...

I luuurve this photo :) There is nothing better than galloping an exracer full tilt :)

oh that is sooooo true!! makes you YEEEHAHHH!!!

It was a feeling neither of us have had in a while - the fastest thing I've ever sat on was our TB pony and Fig in 3rd gear absolutely trounces that!!!!!

Lol!!! I'm thinking of investing in a standing martingale!

I can't wait, super excited. We have Father Sparkle on pic and vid patrol! CS deffo hasn't seen water before, I'm pretty sure Fig has but he seems to like things like that :)

I'm already there - if I do well at ROR the money will be going towards some jumping tack for Fig! Mmm rolled patent double bridle with matching martingale here we come ;)

My boy had a gallopy fun day today as well he thinks he's arkle because he always wins by half a field we have not explained that beating cobface is not really difficult .
He also jumped scary ditches walked in long grass where he could not see where he was putting his feet jumped half fallen down trees and saw a huge black bull which got up when it saw us ( luckily it was lame so TB breathed again ) .
He spent the afternoon in his stable planning a new even longer risk assessment .
Loving that green outfit .

Can I add my own Cobby into that mix?

NMT great pics, Fig looks very pleased with myself and PS's face in the first photo of her cracked me up!

Not difficult. I've been hacking my boy in a D1 Dressage saddle for a couple of years - and I wear the same colour Konigs as yours!
Regularly gallop him - loving the stubble at the moment :)
Personally I feel safer riding long - especially when there are pheasants and deer to content with!

Of course :)

Haha we're trying to work out whether she was whooping or screaming!

:shrugs: I find it really difficult as the Equipe doesn't let my knee move forward at all, puts me in a really good position on the flat. Previous saddle was an Innova, which was too big for me and the blocks were higher, so I didn't have any problems hiking my pedals ups for jumping and hacking.

I feel much more secure riding long, and I do ride very long! But I'm just massively in the wrong position for any of this, and also a bit too stiff and creaky!

Loving the stubble whilst it lasts :)

"Too stiff and creaky"! Shame on you I will have you know I'll be hitting the big 50 next year and can't get enough of riding my hot iberian (can't believe I actually admitted to that in public).

Alas, at the grand age of 23 I've already undergone treatment for the arthritis in my shoulders and doctors are looking to do something about my hips in the next 2 years :)

I can barely do a stand up canter in the school in my dressage saddle and I don't ride half as long as you, plus I'm used to cantering/galloping around out my saddle, so I don't have stiff/creaky excuses!

So jealous of you going to the beach, I'd love to take Mally!

Lol - you may not be jealous when there are reports of gory, instant death....!!!
