Don't know if you remember but I was kind of trailling an Irish TB who's been on my yard for 10 months. I did a how much on him I think.

anyway, after not hacking (or even being ridden) for nearly a year, I took him, in my wisdom, to Epsom Downs. For those of you who know Epsom Downs, I'm sure you'd agree that on a sunny Sunday afternoon, it's probably the biggest head f@@K in the world for a horse!

People, horses, dogs, hundreds of motorised planes, kites etc etc...Anyway, we had a bit of an incident where he decided that the horse box was safer and he tried to take me back. I was a bit of a woss and decided he wasn't for me.

I beat myself up about it all week as I'd been riding him and hacking out and had no problems - even going past guys chain sawing trees on a bridle path (and chipping them)

So decided to school him tonight and he was wicked....going to hack him around the block, on his own tomorrow and then make a decision.

So please, good vibes.....I'll make sure I'm confident and keep the old legs on but I really want this to work!

To be fair on him, maybe epsom downs wasn't the best place to go!
I am pleased to say I have got one of the calmest, most sane horses I have ever known but I still haven't taken him to our local park as I know it always winds horses up because of the wide open space, the kids, model planes, dogs etc etc!
Give him another chance and good luck!

Well I had gone down to Epsom Downs on my TB mare, and it was after midday so all training of racehorses should have stopped, when a load went hurtling past us and my mare went bombing after them! They slowed down and as for me I was hanging round my mares neck as she stopped,my friend I was out with pi**ing herself at me.....when one of the jockeys all of 4ft appeared and said'You can let go now,luv!'.....well I dropped to the ground and muttered I would need something to remount from when he said'No worries I'll give you a leg up!' This was all said with a Irish accent and a cigarette in his mouth.....

the shame as this little midget person flung me up into my saddle and God was he strong!

WOOPS...

Epsom Downs are beautiful - but cause chaos with some of the 'kiddy' ponies at our yard when the planes are there.

Chloe is fascinated by the planes and kites, bless.

Good Luck.

Thanks guys - hacked him out on his own and he was wicked! Bearing in mind he hasn't hacked out on his own for ages (and apparently his last owner didn't hack him at all) he was a gem.

We had a plant and direction change at the sight of two big white cobs bounding towards us but a boot and words of encouragement helped!

Really think I've made the right decision and my instructor is chuffed I gave him another chance as she thinks he's a gem.

So, here's to my new boy Oscar!
