Gelding costs

Just wondering the average cost of gelding at the minute, Planning on gelding mine in April and would like to see how much I’ll be paying.

Probably best to phone a couple of local vets to get an idea.
Mine does castration clinics twice a year for yearlings and 2 Yr old with both down, where folk pre book and take them in for day surgery. Not many do that tho.

How old is yours?

April = the start of fly season. If you get it done now you may get away with it.

But for prices you’re better off getting a quote directly from your vet.

£350 for mine last year (mule yearling, laid down at home)

And then you can double that for his post-castration complications….
And potentially would have had to times it by 10 if he’d needed opening up to clean out the infracted tissue. My vet did nothing wrong…. It’s a procedure with a high risk of complications!

Rising 2 this year, he's quite cheeky though so unsure if they'll do him standing

I paid £340 including 1st flu jab (he’d already had 2 x tetanus) last October for my native x weanling.

I have never yet had one done standing and I have had a good many over the years. Vet has always dropped them in the field and got on with it. I always assisted where needed.

Had numerous done standing sedation, £300 ish if all goes well.
