we have been waiting for both of williams testicles to drop so we can have him gelded. one dropped but then disappeared again and there is still nothing there. he is now nearly 8 months old. how old would you expect them to have both testicles or should i be calling the vet?

Mine was checked at 7 months old one was defo dropped the other was there but he still couldnt have been cut so we are leaving till next jab's end of March start of April.when he willbe 9 months nearly 10...

ETA my vet wouldnt have gelded a month ago as too cold she advised spring time or when the frosts had gone.

Are either of yours showing any coltish tendancies? Mine is eight months and still very much a foal rather than a colt, I haven't checked his testicles yet. If he has to wait a couple of months for gelding, my three year old filly will be coming home and I don't want her covered, but can't seperate them (electric fence is nothing to her, the baggage!)

to be honest no he isnt. he is stabled next to a mare and is around mares all the time as its a livery yard. although he is very confisent and does get a bit bolshy at times.

orin,

in my considered opinion, gelding is one of those jobs which you actually should put off until it's needed.

Don't geld too soon. Others will disagree with me, but it's most certainly, in my opinion, better left until it's needed.

Alec.
