I bought my little gelding 2 years ago as a gelding. I am 100% sure he is one. However, I noticed last year that his passport still says he is a colt - I guess it didn't get updated when the vet did the chop for one of his previous owners (all 5 of them by 2 years old!). Now, I may need to sell him this year and I guess the passport inaccuracy may cause an issue with potential purchasers. What would the vets need to do to be able to sign it? Could they have a quick grope, or would they need to do a full blown hormone test? He's not worth much money wise so I'd prefer not to spend tons of money on tests if not necessary. Thanks.

My horses passport still said colt on it and he is definitely gelded. When i sent his passport off to get it changed to my name it was returned with a 'gelded since registration' stamp on it. Not sure where they got that information from however!

depends on the passport issuer, some you can just sign as change to gelding how old is the pony? If the new owners have him vet checked it could be sorted then.

He's rising 4, 8hh pony so I'm not sure how likely a purchaser is to vet check him! I hadn't thought of contacting the passport issuers though, good idea, thank you.

Yes ask the passport issuer

Mine says that the vet must have gelded the horse themselves or have checked for castration scars. I guess it would only be if scars were not visible that there may be a debate

There may be a charge for updating the passport
