Just thought I'd show you some pics of the gelding I bought in poor condition in February. The 'after' picture was taken about a month ago and i think he has even bloomed again since then. He's turning out to be a very friendly and genuine horse with lots of character!! Can anyone guess his breed? Obviously TB X I'm not too sure...!

Lovely. He's looking so much better - it's amazing what the spring grass can do for a horse.....along with lots of care and time.

Wow what a difference! There might be a wee bit of irish draught in there. Looks loads like my friends horse and thats her breeding

Could be an Irish TB they're much heavier in bone. My sisters ex-racer (who is in heaven now) had so much bone and feather that without his passport we'd have never believed he was pure TB.

He's got similar conformation to Ty (who we believe is full Irish TB) did you get him shortly after him coming over from Ireland - they do come over in a sorry state some of them. Saying that he's got a bigger bum than Ty so maybe a wee bit of something heavier in him....

You have worked wonders with him - is he any different to ride now? xx

Id say hes the same as my boy who is an irish TB same build and bone as him look-

Please ignore me and not the best pic but u might b able to see similarities

Hi SevernMiles, I spoke to a lady who was on his vaccs certificate who had him from an 18 month old (apparently rescued), she was unsure of his breeding but said she was told that one of his great grandparents (assumably his sire) was a derby winner. She was made redundant and had to sell up, she sold this horse for a nominal price to someone who she thought was a genuinely good home, in the space of three months (Nov to Feb) apparently the horse had gone from being a bit overweight to the condition on my pics, at which point I bought the horse. He is a typical TB in that he can be quite nappy and spooky but he is not as exciteable as my TB mare and also has a bit of an attitude and a slight stubborn streak! Has just started jumping and really sharpens up and jumps like a TB! The brighter bay in my pics is an Irish TB, she has a really broad chest (like a cob) but this fella is a lot more uphill in his paces and has heavier bone. Thanks all for your comments! It's good to see what some wormer, a feed, ad lib hay and a warm rug can do for a horse like this during the winter months! And then of course he went out onto some good Welsh grass...this time next year I'll probably be complaining he's too fat!!

What I'm saying is that Mymills boy has that shorter coupled more rounded look that a cross would have - does that make sense?

TB's tend to have bigger shoulders and smaller bums - from what I've seen.....

This is last year before he dropped his foal! haa haa

Tell me about the stubborn streak in Irish TB's....never known anything like it!

Can he be a grumpy so in so too sometimes?

Hi there, he's lovely! Yes can see similarities, my horse has what I call a 'ponyish' head and has a slightly dished face compared to the mare whose head is very long and narrow.

Hi yes this boy is quite short coupled and his back end seems to be getting more rounded by the day..(maybe time to start watching his weight

) I didn't ride him for the first two weeks I had him in Feb as he was on Panacur Guard and just looked like he'd had enough, I led him out in hand and then did a bit of lungeing before hacking out. I must say he hasn't changed a great deal to ride but definately has more spark, went a bit silly with the Spring flush but then I guess that's to be expected. He can try it on with bolshiness at times and is very dominant in the field which he wasn't at first but on that score he has changed as now he likes to see himself as herd leader, whereas before he was a bit of a wallflower!!

He looks lovely though! Don't worry about the belly - Ty was the same (in the pic) but he's on limited turnout now and getting better quality food so he's lost the weight and picked up condition.....it does take a while though, I've had Ty a year next week.....

So lovely to see the changes that patience and good care can make though! xx

Ps - IRISH TB's ROCK!!!
