Hi all! I got a new pony yesterday. She was imported from Germany in 2008. Obviously her passport is all in German and I don't understand a word of it :/ there is a stamp on the horses sketch. Does anybody know what these stamps are please?

Can you tell us the PIO? (Even if you just type in the letters as they appear.) There are quite a few. But an overstamp on the horse's details can indicate the equivalent of Loss of use - which would be rather important for you to know!

Passport Issuing Organisation. The name of the body who issued the passport.

You might find it on the front cover or on the title page. The german for horse passport is going to be der Pferdepass - so that won't help!

That's what it says lol oh dear. But on the back it says (but probably totally irrelevant) LVM versicherungen. That stamp is a symbol of a crown and what looks like a wheel underneath then the number 64 under that. Sorry to be vague. She was imported in foal been used as a broodmare for polo ponies. Has been ridden whilst here. I've see photos and videos. And was recently in an equine college being ridden by students in Cheltenham.

LVM versicherungen is one of Germany's top 5 insurers - including agricultural insurance. I can't find a reference to them issuing passports - but a fair number of federation owned animals seem to have that in their name. What is her passport name - perhaps we can get something from that?

That means Symphony. Nice name - but isn't going to get us anywhere.

Where are you going to send the passport to in order to get the ownership details changed? Do you have an address? That might help.

However - have also thought of a reason to over stamp the sketch. If she was competed under affiliated rules in another country - especially if she was shown - the passport can be "over stamped" but the show society. It could be that.

I lived in Germany for over ten years and speak German fluently. The breeding associations issue passports, usually. The Pferdezuchtverband is the breeding association. Does the stamp say anything? Or is there a logo?

The crown and the wheel thing, that's the "brandzeichen". It's the "logo" (branded) of the breed, Sachsen-Anhaltiner.

Oh yay! Someone who speaks german! It's what looks like a crown with a wheel underneath then the number 64 under it

Yep, I wouldn't worry. Mine has it too, she's from Hannover. It's just the brand of the breed, she might have it branded into her left-upper thigh. It's like a "quality mark".

Google the word Pferdezuchtverband Sachsen-Anhalt e.V and then hit "translate this page". You can see the logo on the page. Thanks xpkecho!

If you google the words "sachsen-anhalt brandzeichen" and go to images, you'll probably find the same thing. It's absolutely nothing to worry about!

You have made my day! There's another stamp elsewhere in the passport. Is there anyway I can show you on here?

I'm glad! If you have the image saved on the device you're currently posting with, when you reply to this thread (not the quick reply option, the real deal haha) you can click on the little photo icon at the top to add a picture. Hopefully that's clear!

Nope. Useless when it comes to all this technology stuff

No problem :) explain to me what page the stamp is on (as in, the identification, the front page, the vacc's page etc), what the stamp looks like and just copy any german you can see - i'll translate it and hopefully we'll find out more that way :)
