Girls at yard bitching because...

They are stupid but you I have to say are very brave! There is no way I would turn my grey out without a rug at the moment - she would have behaved like a hippo and come in bay!!

;-)

I am so glad that I have my horse at home now and my livery has gone. I can do what I like and nobody complains, bitches, whines, etc.

i have 2 ponies sharing a stable with a little yard and the stable door left open, they prefer to be outside in the yard.

My hairy cob has been naked all winter and its going to stay that way. A handful of people have commented but they are the ones that rug their horses up to the eyeballs! I invite them to put their fingers into his coat and feel how warm his skin is. Then they seem to understand!

Ignore the numpties and do what you know is best for your horse.

My little hairy has been unrugged all winter - a hairy horse is a happy horse!
Seriously, ignore them - I bet your horse was much happier without his rug on having a good roll!

A lady down the yard turned her little chesnut mare out in the school whilst she mucked out tonight (we are all in still ) and she rolled ... no rugs, lol ... Oh we laughed :D

OP be original, you know your horse and you have your own mind. You get my backing big time :D

We are all in at the moment and it was a lovely day so my nearly fat TB mare stayed unrugged all day standing in her stable munching her hay .... ;)

When we came back from our ride today it was 12 degrees. Shy is moulting, so he needed a good rub'n'roll to get it all out - so he went out naked. What is WRONG with people ??

Half a mile up the road from me are almost a thousand piebald hairy cobs, unrugged all winter; recent events have shown what there fate was to be, but in the meantime, they have seemed ok to me.

Let them bitch, just laugh at them - they do not have a clue.

My clipped (but growing back) new forest went out in a rain sheet last week, today i turned him out without a rug. i got a text after i left saying they had put his rug on, i told them he was turned out without a rug as i wanted him that way. the reply was: "oh." ha. ive had loads of guys say im mean as all the natives on my yard (even unclipped) are still in heavy weights. my pony hasnt dropped weight or grown anymore coat even after being out in a blizzard and rain, not shivering so is obviously ok, but im still cruel!

My horse, my rules!

Your horse .... Your rules ....

If you hear them bitching - have a polite word.

Our yard has 50 plus horses/ponies - over this winter some have been out naked and partly clipped, others clipped with MW/HW rugs, un-clipped with MW/HW rugs, some natural and naked, others natural with 500gms during the snow - depends on the horse/pony and how they deal with the weather - each is an individual.

I really don't see whose business it is other than yours. :)

Stupid bints - my unclipped cob has been out ALL winter unrugged except for a few days of serious, constant rain! Send them to me - I will RIP A STRIP off them for you.

completely agree, mine are rugged up as the are clipped, and the one mare i did have here for the winter had a rug, as she was a real wuss when it came to the weather, but in general, if they are not clipped, and are in good condition, they dont need to be rigged up, thats what there coats are for. Keep the chin up and take no notice. Your horse will be fine, and probably happier. xx

If they were really concerned for your horse's well being they would have said something to your face (hopefully!) - they were just being bitchy for the sake of being bitchy... Often goes with the territory of owning a horse unfortunately. If your horse is happy and healthy you are getting it right :).

My hairy boy is unrugged and happy at the moment! My fellow liveries are all lovely fortunately, but I wouldn't give two hoots if they were making digs about how I keep my horse - I keep him how I want him kept, it's nobody's business but my own!

I have struggled so much with confidence on livery yards, but now I am afraid, it's my horse, my rules, not a lot of conversation, and sticking to what I want to do. It's the only way to do what you want to do. I feel so much better for it too. :)

There are two very important words you need to learn op, they cover any issue, not just rugs. The first word rhymes with duck, the second is off. They resolve anything to do with bitching far better than justification does.

Ignore them, they are clearly idiots.

I put mine out with a lightweight today just to keep him clean: it didn't work:

He'll be out naked next week because I'll be around to clean as necessary. I hate over rugging!

Can't stand people that over rug!
Good for you, if weather permits why not let them out nude! I bet it feels lovely to get a bit of Sun on their backs!.

My draft x hasn't worn a rug for two years now.

Funny how some over rug their unclipped cobs and then complain all summer that they're obese......

Oh dear, well show them my two taken a few weeks ago.... Clipped and rugless, cleary frozen and fed up..!!

I let mine go naked whenever possible, so they can get some sun on their backs and have a groom etc. They love it!

I left mine in tonight, rugless, so he could have a good itch. It was only a medium with half the stuffing missing anyway (don't ask ), he can sunbathe tomo and have a good roll to help shift his winter coat :)

My tb x trotter was out naked yesterday, she had a lovely roll. Will do the same today. Most horses r better off without rugs, it's us owners who feel they need them. Don't listen, complete fools :)

One of the great attraction of horses for me was the fact that girls out numbered boys by about 40:1 where ever I went! Good ratio for the law of averages to start working!

Being a bloke - I've been largely immune from all the "stuff" that goes on between girls ( of all ages ) on yards ( sort of 50/50 eye candy/ wouldn't touch him with a bargepole, hahaha) but I've witnessed some horrible feeding frenzies! Some have ended up with sabotage - manes and tails being hacked off which I found abhorent.

Seems something that girls have to put up with; however; the upside is, many seem to form enduring friendships - indeed, I still have two "girls" that were my daughter's comtemporaries come to see me now and then ( grown up and wed with children of their own ) - thirty years after first meeting.

I must be very evil. I've just put a lean, fully clipped 24yr old out without one. She went out grey, now there is just the hollows above her eyes, top of tail & lower legs (doesn't walk in mud, just rolls in it) that are grey. Admittedly she's a good doer who's lean deliberately in preparation for grass coming through, & will be brushed & rugged & put back out again soon, but I like her to enjoy a good roll & a bit of sun on her back.

Ignore the numpties on your yard completely and do what's best for your horse. Horses have internal central heating systems activated by grazing/eating/moving for the most part.

There's a funny cartoon doing rounds on Facebook just now of a horse piled high with rugs; his field mate is looking at him quizzically, saying 'what happened to you??' To which the rugged horse replies 'my owner was cold'. Bout sums it up, really!

Personally I couldnt give a rats ass what clueless people think!

My mare had a ball yesterday. First time for months she got out without a rug! she was definitly not suferring when she was using the field as a mud bath! :D:D

It was lovely and suny here yesterday- long may it continue!:D
