Girthing issues

Just bought a nice (used) saddle for my horse. However the girth straps on the saddle appear to be a bit shorter than my previous saddle.

when tacking up I can barely do the girth up. However once we’ve walked around a bit, my horse must have unpuffed, and I can do the girth up a bit more.

I really hate having to “ratchet” the girth up when first putting in on. I’m guessing new girth straps on the saddle is possibly the better course of action to solve this. The girth probably doesn’t want to be much longer

Not sure I'd you are asking a question or not, but if you are looking for solutions you can get girth strap extenders. I had some shires ones to use temporarily whilst mine lost some weight and the girth fitted again

Longer girth. Longer billets will hang down below the flap in most cases, potentially even devalue your saddle, and may cost as much or more than a new girth at £10 a strap or so. I always recommend the shortest girth you can get done up, ideally it ends up on about the third hole on both sides, though lower is even better.
