I posted a while ago about my slippy reins and learned that glycerine-based saddle soap perhaps isn't the best tack cleaner to use. I have a nice leather balm I use after cleaning but am struggling to find a cleaner (rather than conditioner) that isn't glycerine-based. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

lukewarm water does a pretty good job by itself for me :) a non abrasive sponge and away you go. i find cold water a bit less effective at getting the grease off.

Hand-hot water and a cotton dishcloth, the old fashioned kind, it can be warmer than lukewarm. A drop of Fairy in the bucket if it's really minging, but that's usually only strap work, avoid it on saddles if you can. I'd not recommend a sponge personally.

i don't have hot water unless i boil a kettle at the yard so lukewarm is as good as it gets... otherwise i would be boiling and boiling ;)

Thanks. I do tend to use hot water, but it just doesn’t feel like proper cleaning without a ‘product’. ?
