invested in one of these nifty little gadgets as the mincey Spaniard pulls all sorts of stunts - oh wow! a few quid well and truly spent ! Nothing better than having a nice discreet handle to grab hold off in those off the floor moments - AND, to cap it all, he gets really cross that he hasn't disloged me. His ideal move would be flick back end up to get you 'in front' of the saddle and then whip round sharp right so hopfully you will topple forward/sideways and then do a 'little rear' to unbalance you further.

I have to say all these stunts are absolutly text book and you could set your watch by how many minutes into a hack/schooling sesssion he will do it! He was gelded very late and I think it is a 'dominance thing!'

Still, to all of you out there with stunt horses - get a balance strap - Brill!

Thats an amazing description of a stunt a local horse has been pulling, does yours have a flash on by any chance?

No, I don't like flash nosebands at all. He has a simple cavesson and is either ridden in a double bridle or neue schule verbinded snaffle. He is simply Mr Hot who wants his own way! It is becuase he thinks he is the leader, and wants to turn left, or right, or canter NOW. He is also as agile as flippin' cat!
These stunts aren't nasty, he is just an opinionated Spaniard!:D

I too have a balance strap that has saved me on many occasions. I call it my B'Jesus Handle. My horse is also a Spanish git who likes to dump me from time to time for his own pleasure and amusement. He was most disgusted when he discovered he couldn't throw me off any more!!!
His favourite trick (aside from bucking) is to pretend to spook at something, spin round REALLY fast then drop his shoulder. His first reaction to me being able to cling on was to then spin the opposite way!!! On I bravely clung! He has another trick where he spins round in a circle really fast, and again the balance strap allows me to stay on. I hook my thumb under it when I feel him tense up, or is having a particularly 'Spanish' episode. Funnily enough when we are out hacking alone he NEVER tries to spook violently. Hmmmmm!!!!

ahhh I loved mine, had one on my 12"2 when I was little and whenever grown-ups got on they'd be like 'pffft don't need that, how rediculous' and take it off...they usually ended up on the floor  lol
Used to have one on my jump saddle to go XC. Had a martingale, breast girth and balance strap for all the different situations where I like to hold a kneck strap :p Although of course the martingale and breast girth were for other purposes too...lol

what are these magic strap things and where do i find one think i need them!! i think someone was trying to explain about it to me today as baby clydie keeps worrying himself and running off then getting unbalanced and trying to ditch me :p silly boy

looked at the RS-tor balance handle, but think we'll try a good old balance strap to start with. Oh the joys of bronco-ing onto my head - could they be over ??
