...And post the videos from my latest competition with Gigi.



The first round, she always needs to have a refusal. After this class, I have noticed the pattern, she ALWAYS refuses the last part of the double in the first round, so next time I shall ride her much stronger to get her over it first time. I know I should have turned and done the whole double again, but I thought, its not an affiliated competition, I already had the 4 faults for the refusal, so I wasn't going to let her win - a lot of it with her is all to do with a battle of wills!!

2nd round she had been stood around in the cold for a while, so was a bit excited to start with, but calmed down after the first few jumps.

So, what do you think? I know my position is very forward, but I'm working on this, and its improving; I only get chance to do a course of show jumps when I'm out competing, as there are only 4 jumps at home, but I'm getting there slowly!

You look really good on her, like you're forging a real partnership :)

I think you've improved lots from the last video I saw of you (the Smokes one), you're much tighter in the saddle and you were really planning hoe you rode each round. You do what I do though and chase the last few strides into the fence rather than having the right canter beforehand and then sitting still and just keeping it. Al's instructors both get after her to have everything ready before the last few strides, and then to keep it consistent. It's really hard to do though! Do you do gridwork with her? I think it could really help you both to do quite a lot, just focusing on keeping it all very quiet and consistent- she's got all the punch and ping, and now needs to rein it back in to make it easier for you both.

You look really good though, she's a classy mare!
 
She's a lovely horse. I liked the way she sorted herself out in the triple - so kind. I haven't seen your previous video, but am I right in thinking you have been working on steadying her up and not rushing? She looks as though she is part way there on this - trying hard to steady but every now and again she gets excited and rushes a little. If this is the case, well done and keep at it - most of each round is very sweet and will get more consistent. Sooooooo hard to work on this at home... we have the same problem.

Thank you :) I could do with some lessons really, have been so busy with work alllll summer though :(

Ha, the smokes video was a year ago, and was after 6 months (I think) of not riding at all/not riding regularly, so I'm glad I've improved haha

No, I've never posted a video of me and her, last video I posted, which was the smoke one above, I got slated on it so have bailed since! Lol

Gigi is a VERY laid back mare when being ridden (though not when clipped apparently lol) and I feel like I'm constantly kicking her on, though this could partly be due to having smoke before who is a little rocket lol. But thanks. This is only her 4th or so show for well over a year, and 3rd with me, so I'm very pleased with her :)

She's a very sweet horse .
You need to do some pole and grid work with her and a lot of flat work .
I would be doing loads of flat work with her working towards improving the contact and the bending and doing loads of lateral work.

She is, thank you :)

We do a lot of flat work at the moment, I know she still needs an awful lot more though! The wind was up her tail this day (plus she hadn't been ridden since clipped) so that didn't help either lol.

Pole work and grid work shall be started Monday :)

Really interesting to watch as we've got some similar issues going on, so interested to hear what you've been doing, and to read people's tips.

Lolo - I do exactly this, drives me potty! How do you fix it? Am also gonna try some grid work.

I thought it was a sweet round overall OP and I understand why you didn't represent at the double, as the height is small enough for her to pop over it easily. Well done!
